Not only is Susan Sheppard the creator of the Haunted Parkersburg Ghost Tours, she is also well respected for her abilities as a psychic medium. She has worked as psychic and a spiritualist medium since age fourteen and as a paranormal investigator for the last decade. This came about when her friends overheard a well-known psychic tell Susan that she, too, had "the gift" and should use her special abilities to help others. This was no surprise to Susan's family who had witnessed her uncanny abilities since early childhood.
Her West Virginia childhood might have some bearing on her interest in the paranormal. Sheppard is "Black Dutch," meaning she is descended from the less than 850 Shawnee Indians who remained east of the Mississippi River after the other Shawnee (during the "Trial of Tears" removal) were forced onto reservations out west in the 1830s. Susan, along with others in the Friend family, is a direct descendent of Shawnee Chief Big Thunder through his daughter, Bright Lightning, whose name was anglicized to "Anna Friend."
Susan grew up just a few hills away from the first sighting of the famous West Virginia Mothman. It was during this time that Sheppard’s family home underwent a great deal of paranormal activity sparking her interest in the unknown while tapping into her natural psychic talents. However, Sheppard has had direct communications with spirits of her Native American ancestors since around age four when she met the ghosts of two Indian braves on the hillside above her grandparent's house in broad daylight. Though very small, she understood the braves to be both her ancestors and her guides. Ms. Sheppard’s adolescence was spent partly doing psychic readings along with school work and sometimes working with local law enforcement on missing person cases. She later grew up with the aspirations of becoming a published author and an artist, both of which she achieved. Sheppard has authored a number of popular books which are sold worldwide and has continued with her art in many venues. Her poetry alone has won many prestigious awards.
Susan has never strayed from her interests in the spirit world and has continued to work in the field as a medium, as well as a practicing astrologer. In the last few years she has worked primarily as a psychic medium and a paranormal investigator on various ghost hunts and investigations. She also leads séances, does clearings and performs platform style readings before the public for which she is the most famous in her area.
Last year, Susan was featured on the ABC Family Channel’s popular show “Scariest Places on Earth” as a psychic medium at the Shawnee Amusement Park in Bluefield, West Virginia. She has previously taught “Be Your Own Psychic” classes at the Self-Health & Awareness Center and continues appear before audiences and live television as a psychic medium.
Not only is Susan an exceptional psychic, she is knowledgeable in the field of the unknown. She remains up-to-date on the latest developments in research concerning the paranormal. Contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org

20 Questions With Susan Sheppard
1. Where do you see Ghost tours like your own going in 10 years?
Truthfully, I see it peaking in a year or two and maybe waning unless
other activities are offered. I think there will always be interest
in such things as ghost tours, but the tours must evolve and grow
with the public interest.
2. What would you personally consider to be the definitive proof that ghosts are real?
I think the EVPs (electronic voice phenomena) that we have gathered
are the most convincing – especially the children’s voices
when there are no children present.
3. What is the most real evidence you personally have uncovered so far?
Videotapes where we have captured amazing images not on the tour,
but on related ghost hunts related to stories on the ghost tours that
we have followed up with investigations. Plus, we have a number of
paranormal experiences on the tours. We have a shadow person in one
of the graveyards we pass and he is easy to see.
4. Are you skeptical of the claims others make of their findings?
I assume people are telling the truth, but there are easy ways to know, such as ghosts are not transparent, they appear as solid, and they do not usually appear for more than a few seconds. So if a person reports a ghost apparition as see-through or looks like a cloud, well, that doesn’t seem truthful.
Many times it is car lights or street lights in peoples’ photographs, or reflections in glass, that appear to be anomalies. They will eventually figure this out in their own and there is really no reason to rain on their parade. Most people are sincere.
5. If you could investigate your "Dream Haunted Hot Spot" where would it be?
6. What was your first Paranormal encounter?
I saw the ghosts two Native American braves on the hillside above
my grandparent’s house when I was four-years-old in broad daylight.
I recently found out through DNA I am 1/8th Native American.
7. What is the best highlight a must see on your tour?
The Blennerhassett Hotel and the Weeping Woman statue in Riverview Cemetery.
8. If you could work side by side with one of the Paranormal Investigator greats, who would it be?
Rosemary Ellen Guiley
9. Read any good Paranormal Books lately other then your own?
Rosemary Ellen Guiley, “Encyclopedia of Ghosts & Spirits”
10. What Question do people ask you most when you tell them you’re a paranormal tour owner?
Most are interested. Some people make fun because they are either ignorant or on some deep level are very afraid of the idea of ghosts or spirits of the dead.
11. In your opinion, where is the most Haunted city in America?
It would be a toss up between Gettysburg and New Orleans.
12. Do you feel more people should get involved with Ghost hunting or Paranormal Investigation on ghost tours?
I think this is something people enjoy and we do add elements of ghost hunting on the Haunted Parkersburg Tours such as explaining what hauntings mean and demonstrate the equipment.
13. What does the future hold for your tour?
I hope it will evolve and grow and bring more television shows to our area.
14. Paranormal or haunted Ghost tours do you see them growing?
It is hard to fathom them growing beyond what they are but it is possible. The only downside is, many people don’t appreciate the subtle nature of hauntings and go in for the fake haunted amusement parks and fake haunted houses.
15. What is your most favorite local ghost story?
The Ghost of Silver Run, The Banshee of Marrtown, West Virginia Mothman, etc.
16. Tell us about your best moment on a ghost tour for you?
We always have streetlights go out when we walk under them. We can count as many as eight in one evening.
17. What is the hardest part about being a paranormal Tour guide?
Having people think I am some kind of a Devil Worshipper or that I am summoning spirits to use for my own ends. This is a conservative area and those who haven’t been on the tour do not realize much of the tour is history. Plus, I don’t need to summon spirits – they just follow me around.
18. What is the hardest thing about your business to deal with?
The weather. Deciding on where we can do a tour that night. Then trying to convince the people who show up it is too rainy and cold to go out on the tour.
19. Have you ever taken a ghost Tour other then your own? And, What about it did you not like?
Yes! Most tour guides in other areas take much too long to tell their
stories. Most of ours are under minutes. There are only two or three
stories that take seven minutes. Also, when tour guides do not take
it seriously enough to dress up and look like tourist themselves.
I think tour guides need to weave a spell and costuming is important.
20. What in the field of ghost hunting and Paranormal Investigating or ghost tours needs the most attention.
The use of reputable psychics, which are often hard to find, especially those with mediumistic abilities who are able to interpret the findings and sometimes enhance the appearances of spirits could end up very good tools. We have noticed there is more spirit activity whenever I am present on our events. I can only assume I am a conduit.
