Bio -Shannon McCabe
About me, I'll be 33 on May 11th, and I am a Taurus. I have a husband, Bruce Kubel, and a little black 7lb. poodle named Rocket. I live in Curtis Park, a small suburb near downtown Sacramento. In my daytime life, I run a flower shop and manage a touring musician by the name of David Brookings. In my spare time, ha ha, I take boudoir photography, DJ weddings & parties, give singing lessons, cook, attend rock concerts, love Harry Potter and Emile Hirsh movies, shop online for stuff I probably don't need, love the band Marcy Playground, travel to as many Renaissance Faires as possible, guest speak on various paranormal radio shows, and just all around try to have a good time at whatever I am doing! Whoosh! I need a breath!!! I took over H.P.I. Paranormal in 2006 and it's been going great! We have an H.P.I. comic book coming out soon, H.P.I. radio, and we're working on our next series of paranormal conferences. Stay Tuned....

20 questions Shannon McCabe
1. Where do you see ghost hunting and Paranormal groups like your own in 10 years?
I see a ton of paranormal groups popping up all over the place right now. There seems to be quite a trend going, it's awesome! I think that in 10 years, there will be some really incredible equipment for us to use and, maybe, we might even have a device that would let us go over to the "other side" to see how it really is for ourselves. That would be really cool! But speaking for HPI, I would like to see us all retired and living in our mansions, sipping Mojitos on our porches, with our ghostly friends at our sides. Ahhhh....
2. What would you consider to be the definitive proof that ghosts are real?
Personally, I have seen a full body apparition and that was all I needed to believe. But, for the evidence that HPI requires, we need either something on video, or EVP. We use pictures for more of a tool... It is so hard to distinguish a dust orb from a spirit, that's we pretty much rule most of them out. We also have our "Resident Orbologist", John Wachter to dispell them for us!
3. What is the most real evidence you have uncovered so far?
I would say that would have to be our haunting in West Sac. Two of my HPI members reside in this residence, and it is truly amazing. It does not matter what time of day you investigate you always get something. We have been able to communicate with their spirits, ask them questions, and get audible and intelligent answers back from them. On video, we have asked our "friends" to "touch the colors on John's shirt" only to have our "friend" flutter right across John's chest so we could capture it on video. All these videos can be found at blog.newrain.com
4. Are you skeptical of the claims other make of their findings?
Sometimes. But I just offer my honest opinion and maybe we can figure it out together. Sometimes, I am skeptical of my own claims... that is why this business is so fun. You just never know what to expect!
5. If you could investigate your "Dream Haunted Hot Spot" where would it be?
Chillingham Castle in the UK.
www.Chillingham-Castle.com This place is supposed to be incredibly haunted, I would LOVE to do an overnighter there. Oh boy, I can just imagine it, Carol Gillis (H.P.I. Treasurer) and I running around in our Ren Faire Garb chasing ghosts! I am very into the Renaissance Period, Tudor especially, you can probably find me at almost any Renaissance Faire in CA during the summer. Chillingham Castle would be the ultimate, I'd have to dress up in my Noble Faire wear while chewing on a turkey leg, to do the ghost hunt though.
6. What was your first Paranormal encounter?
Well, my first... that would be "Stan" my first full body apparition...I'll get to his name later... I was coming to work at 400 Capitol Mall in Sacramento. I was in the parking garage on the 3rd level. It was quite early, I got there before most because I wanted to get into the gym before it got crowded. The parking structure was your normal round and round structure where you drive up a ramp to the next level... Anyway, I had parked on the third level and was walking up to the door to the elevators. I looked straight ahead of me and standing in front of a garbage can was "Stan", he looked totally human. He had his arms at both sides, staring straight ahead, expressionless. He had that middle aged man's hairdo, you know the one, hair around the sides and back and none on top. He was wearing eyeglasses, a Kelly green Polo shirt, and dark slacks. He looked like he could be of this time or as far back as the 1980's. He was standing in front of the garbage can and to his right was a Black SUV. There were no other cars around except mine. I was walking toward him and said "Hi" and gave him a quick little wave. He did not respond. I thought that was a little wierd, but kept walking. I had to walk to the left of the black SUV in order to not run "Stan" over and to get to the door. By the time I reached to driver's side headlight of the SUV, I looked right and no "Stan"! It was roughly 5 seconds. I walked in front of the car and looked in all directions...even under the SUV, the guy was gone! I was a little spooked so I said "Hello?!" "Is anybody there?" Nothing. He had dissappeared. I went into work and thought, "that was strange? Where could that guy have gone?" I decided I was crazy and went on about my work. Later that day I was visited by my friend, Yolanda. I told her my story and explained the guy and what he looked like. This freaked Yolanda out too.. But the wierd part is the validation I got...
The next day, Yolanda comes running over to my flower shop and says "Shannon you WON'T believe this! A lady came in last night to have her hair done (Yolanda works in a salon next door) and we asked her if we could validate her parking ticket." The lady said "NO WAY, I never park in your parking garage anymore, there's a ghost in there!" Yolanda said "Can you explain?" The lady said "Yeah, there is a ghost on the 3rd level, he wears a green polo shirt and is balding. He just dissappears right in front of people! Everyone has seen him!" Apparently, the lady had worked at 400 Capitol Mall three years prior to the incident and told Yolanda that many of her co-workers had witnessed him also. They named him "Stan". I have yet to see "Stan" again... but I am waiting...
Since this story, three other people have come by my flower shop to tell me they have seen him too...

7. What scares you about Ghost Hunting or Paranormal Investigations?
People becoming possessed. In our group we stress the importance of being very clear-headed during an investigation. If you are weakened, you open yourself up to a possible possession. This means, absolutely no drinking or drugs of any kind, if you are tired, stressed, or hurt, you must leave the investigation site. It's a safety precaution that all groups should strive for.
8. If you could work side by side with one of the Paranormal Investigator greats, who would it be?
9. Read any good Paranormal Books lately?
Not really, I have been too busy editing Paul Dale Roberts' articles to read any books! But I just picked up "Incredible World of Gold Rush Ghosts" by Nancy Bradley and I plan to delve into it soon.
10. What Question do people ask you most when you tell them your a paranormal investigator?
"Have you ever seen a ghost!?" I tell them, nope, never, they don't exist..... Ah come on, I am just kidding!
11. In your opinion, Where is the most Haunted city in America?
New Orleans, Louisiana. With all the tragedy there, it has to be. I plan on making a trip down there within the next year to find out. I'll get back to you...
12. Do you feel more people should get involved with Ghost hunting or Paranormal Investigation?
I don't think they should get involved unless it is a passion for it. Ghost hunting is not always the most exciting thing in the world, and it take an exorbinent amount of time. Some people go 13 years without seeing anything. (But then I finally did. It was worth it!)
13. What does the future hold for you?
Only the Gods know... but I am doing what I can to secure my future and have a great time doing it. A T.V. show would be nice, Discovery Channel? Are you reading this?
14. Have you ever lived in a haunted house or been haunted by ghosts yourself?
Never. But I know plenty of people that have! I guess I am unlucky.
15. What is your most favored tool of the trade?
The "Magical Orb Camera". It's Alica Perry's, my Chief of Staff's, but we catch so many cool things on it!
16. Tell us why Ghosts are real?
My theory is, why not? I'd be silly to think that humans on earth are the only "real" things in this universe. I have actually seen and spoken with ghosts, but who knows, maybe I am crazy. My husband thinks I am. LOL!
17. What is the hardest part about running a paranormal Group?
Keeping everyone happy. I have a very large group of ghost hunters and enthusiasts, and I try to do group outings to haunted places, and conferences to keep everyone entertained and happy. And HPI also has two small groups of core investigators that do our private investigations. It's tough sometimes, but my board of directors is absolutely wonderful and they really help me out!
18. How do you document your investigations?
Alicia Perry & Mary Casiano have been really great at doing our documenting. They will usually make a video of the investigation that includes the EVP's, pictures, and anything else we might find. It seems to work really well, and the clients enjoy everything being put together so nicely. Then of course we have Paul Dale Roberts, our Ghost Writer, who writes everything down and keeps us well documented.
19. Have you ever taken a ghost Tour?
Actually, I like them all. I like the historical aspect of them. I look for ghost tours in every city I visit. My favorite so far is the Key West, Florida Ghost Tour.
20. What in the field of ghost hunting and Paranormal Investigating needs the most attention?
The Ghosts, they need the attention. They are coming to us to help them out, or just to keep them company. And without them, there would be no ghost hunting or paranormal, a pretty boring world in my opinion!
