"Appalachian GhostWalks" was created by The ARC Founder and President, Stacey Allen McGee, who also serves as the Tour Director and attended school for Airline Travel and Tourism at the National Career Institue in Tampa, Florida in 1988-89. He has worked in the travel industry for many years and is assisted by two volunteer staff members ~ Michael W. Combs, CGH and Susan E. James, CGH. Both officers volunteer their time to help develop and present an educational, enlightening, and entertaining experience on each of our walking tours.

"The ARC ~ Alternate Realities Center", founded in February
1994, is based in the small town of Unicoi nestled in Southern Appalachian
Mountains near Johnson City, Tennessee which is located in upper eastern
region of the State. The ARC holds area meetings and offers several
walking tours for area residents and area travelers who find themselves
passing through the Southern Appalachian Mountains and wish to learn
more about our rich history and urban legend, as well as the art and
science of ghost hunting...
In addition, The ARC explores the world of unexplained mysteries,
engaging phenomena that do not necessarily fit conventional scientific
models, while maintaining a strong commitment to scientific methodology
and procedures with efforts to focus on the Human equation. Our mission
is to continuously represent new inspiration for new paradigm thinking
and ideas in an effort to bring about new directions for the potentials
of human consciousness, while bringing about a broader sense of self-awareness...
"The ARC" is not a cult, single-cause institute, or political
action group. However, the organization does consider the study of
phenomena with unexplained origins which manifest themselves in the
reality of this physical world to be of utmost importance to our further
mental and spiritual development as a species in the cosmic scheme
of life. Reality is not always quantifiable. Just because something
can not be measured, cataloged, or photographed does not mean that
it does not exist. However, The ARC utilizes sensitive electronic
equipment to document paranormal activity when and where ever possible...

Although not exactly proven, yet theorized by known science, we assume
that our Universe is one of many and that each Universe has many levels
of existence; In other words, it is multiplanar. In this we may extrapolate
that there could be many different 'realities'. Furthermore, the organization
embraces and celebrates the individual differences of Human beings,
recognizing that one individual's perception of the Universe may not
be that of another's. "The ARC" sponsors public awareness
events as a means by which we may acknowledge the complexity of the
known Universe...
Our primary purpose is the attempt to present data and scientific
evidence that will alter the 'paradigms' of our modern society. Those
who are not familiar with this term will be happy to know that a 'paradigm',
in its most basic sense, is a 'mental map'. It is the way we perceive,
understand, and interpret the world around us. It may also be defined
as the accepted 'truth' about the way all things are suppose to be,
or behave...
Often, the accepted way of doing things, or the way we think about
our world invokes frustration as it becomes no longer convenient,
or appropriate to suit our immediate need. The desire for change often
leads us to open our eyes, as well as our minds, and search beyond
the accepted truth. When the act of looking 'outside the box' inspires
a 'change of mind', we refer to this as a 'paradigm shift'...
Over the years, The ARC, and it's progenitors ~ the United States
UFO Information and Research Center, the Northeast Tennessee UFO Network,
and the Northeast Tennessee Mutual UFO Network, have had a number
of articles and other media coverage. The ARC has had stories in several
publications, but when we were published in first and collector's
edition of the magaizine "X-Pose'", a magazine published
and distributed in several countries in Europe and Canada, we were
simply overjoyed...
We were in good company as we shared this first edition publication
with Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny of the X-Files. Also, The
ARC was featured on the Emmy Award winning television documentary
"Liars and Legends" hosted by Grammy Award winner Bubba
Knight. An archive of our newspaper and magazine articles, television
and radio interviews, and other past media attention will appear on
our website soon...
The organization most certainly encourages individual exploration
of both the 'outer' as well as the 'inner' world. Our focus is to
promote and maintain global awareness and open mindedness, broadening
our scope of acceptance as a species to what is possible in the Universe.
In support of our purpose and goals "The ARC" can best be
described by our member supported organization's decade-old motto...
People helping people to find the truth!!!
Stacey Allen McGee 20 QUESTIONS
1. Where do you see Ghost tours like your own going in 10 years?
We hope to be able to offer many more locations through out our area
along with offering bus tours for those areas not easily accessible
on foot. We also hope to be able to offer our guests more variety
of activities for the whole family.
2. What would you personally consider to be the definitive proof that
ghosts are real?
Proving that ghosts are real really needs no proof. Can someone prove
that ghosts are not real is the real question.
3. What is the most real evidence you personally have uncovered so
far?
It depends on what tour a person comes on. We discuss the real evidence
on each of our tours so people can look at the buildings that we have
investigated as we tell them the findings.
4. Are you skeptical of the claims other make of their findings?
We are very skeptical about others claims, especially when they are
on television. A television show is looking for ratings in order to
stay on the air, and considering some shows are on channels that have
the theme of being fiction.

5. If you could investigate your "Dream Haunted Hot Spot"
where would it be?
We would love to check out the castles in Ireland and Scotland. Not
particularly investigate them, but to be able to experience what others
have experienced over the centuries.
6. What was your first Paranormal encounter?
When I was younger, I would wake up in the middle of the night to
someone breathing cold breathe onto my face, when i'd wake up, no
one was there. Plus there was not source for any air, no fan, no air
conditioner, no vent, and the windows were shut.
7. What is the best highlight a must see on your tour?
All of our tours are a must see, but what is better to say is that
the best highlight of our tours is the experiences that our guests
have with the real stars of the tours.
8. If you could work side by side with one of the Paranormal Investigator
greats, who would it be?
We already work with who we consider one of the greats. Patty Starr
has been a great mentor and a very good friend. We are proud to say
that we are proud to call her friend.
9. Read any good Paranormal Books lately other then your own?
We don't read Paranormal Books, we prefer to experience it through
everyday life.

10. What Question do people ask you most when you tell them your a
paranormal tour owner?
Are there really haunted places around here?
11. In your opinion, Where is the most Haunted city in America?
More importantly, which cities are not haunted?
12. Do you feel more people should get involved with Ghost hunting
or Paranormal Investigation on ghost tours?
No. These types of investigations need to be handled by professionals.
You can get yourself into trouble if you are not careful. It's like
asking a person to drive a car that has never been in one before.
It can be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing.
13. What does the future hold for your tour?
Our tours will continue to educate the young people of the future
of what has happened in our past and in our present. Everyone knows
in future tours, we may experience ghosts of people that are alive
today but may not be tomorrow.

14. Paranormal or haunted Ghost tours do you see them growing?
There is always room to grow. The worst day will be the day we stop
growing in knowledge.
15. What is your most favorite local ghost story?
I love the stories that have been told by guests of the Martha Washington
Inn in Abingdon, VA. Guests have come up to the employees and have
told how much they have enjoyed the Civil War reinactors. The thing
is, there were no reinactors in the building. Civil War soldiers have
been seen in rooms, the hallway, and outside on the grounds. I love
hearing people's experiences when they have stayed here. And especially
love the looks on their faces when they come on our tour an discover
the history and the stories surrounding what they have experienced.
16. Tell us about your best moment on a ghost tour for you?
When a guest came up to us and told us that our tour was better than
one that they had gone on before in another part of the country. The
guest said that after their friends had come on our tour, they were
embarrassed to take their friends on the other tour.
17. What is the hardest part about being a paranormal Tour guide?
Having to put up with people that you know don't want to be there
and bring down the rest of the people in the group. These are usually
husbands that have come with their wives, or children that have come
with their parents and they could care less whether they are there
or not. These types of people make it hard for a guide to make a tour
interesting for everyone else.
18. What is the hardest thing about your business to deal with?
The closed mindedness of so many people out there. These people would
not be satisfied with anything. If it isn't in their norm, then they
don't want it. The only constant in this world is change and these
people can not accept change. A ghost could come up and give them
a wedgie and they would still stand there and say they don't believe
in ghosts.
19. Have you ever taken a ghost Tour other then your own?
Yes, but there was not anything that we did not like about it. We
learned a lot from it.
20. What in the field of ghost hunting and Paranormal Investigating
or ghost tours needs the most attention?
Putting a stop to "thrill seekers" that give us professional
investigators a bad name. We all strive to make a name for ourselves
as being respected ghost hunters and Paranormal Investigators, but
when you have these young people out there that think they know everything
going around and trespassing, it makes it hard for professionals to
be respected. If they see a medical show on tv, that doesn't mean
that they can go out the next day and start performing surgery on
a person. The same principle applies to our field of work.
