LEGEND TRIPPING AND SORTING OUT THE FACTS, THE FICTIONS AND TALES OF THE BLUE EYED CHILDREN OF THE POPE LICK GOAT MAN
By LISA LEE HARP WAUGH
The often sorted weird tales and distorted recounting's of the Pope Lick goat man is more then often associated with a legend of a hominid cryptid associated with Louisville, Kentucky area. Though throughout the world reports of this type of strange creatures existence is really nothing really new to many. It is in many encounters described as a hybrid creature described as part man and part goat. Many locals all have their own personal told tales to tell and often some might just vary enough to give you a shred of truth.
I love gathering legends and tales of monsters and encounters with them as many of yo know. So I decided to travel to Pope Lick Trestle earlier this year and find out what I could because I was truly intrigued by all the emails that I got and to actually visit and learn and see for myself what it was all really about.
The Pope Lick Monster
Fisherville is a neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky centered along Taylorsville Road & Finchville Road. It was originally named Curreys after Edward Currey, who opened a post office in 1833. In 1847, it was renamed after Robert Fisher who had died two years earlier and operated a mill on Floyds Fork with his father, John. The area became more commercial in the late 19th and early 20th centuries due to the opening of railroad tracks and the discovery of a mineral water well. Visitors came for the therapeutic value of the mineral water, but when the well went dry in 1914 the area began its reversion to being a primarily residential area.

ThePope Lick trestles geography of this location makes it impossible to hear a train whistle until it is too late.
Trains go by Pope Lick trestles the frequently!
Dozens of people have tragically died there at the location of the Pope Lick trestles either from being struck by a train or from jumping off or falling off the trestle to avoid a train. These deaths are NOT an urban legend; they are real.
The Pope Lick Monster is as many in Louisville tell you straight out, a half-man and half-goat or half-sheep cryptid reported to live beneath a Norfolk Southern Railway trestle over Pope Lick Creek, in the Fisherville area of Louisville, Kentucky. The legend first reported sometimes in the late 1940s as many believe has taken many turns and twists and from this has so inflated urban legend to what it is today.
An urban legend, urban myth, urban tale, or contemporary legend, is a form of modern folklore consisting of stories usually believed by their tellers to be true. As with all folklore and mythology, the designation suggests nothing about the story's veracity, but merely that it is in circulation, exhibits variation over time, and carries some significance that motivates the community in preserving and propagating it.
Legend tripping, also known as ostension, is a name recently bestowed by folklorists and anthropologists on an adolescent practice (containing elements of a rite of passage) in which a usually furtive nocturnal pilgrimage is made to a site which is alleged to have been the scene of some tragic, horrific, and possibly supernatural event or haunting. The practice has been documented most thoroughly to date in the United States. The Pope Lick Trestle in Louisville, Kentucky, home to a blue eyed satyr-like Pope Lick Monster is no acception to this rule.
Many tales tell of a strange old blue eyed, insane man that had sex with his pack of goats and produced the monster cryptid from this union originally. Where the original story came from no one is quite certain. One story in particular is likely to stand out amongst the rest, however... the story of an old blue eyed hermit who lived under a trestle just off the road of Pope Lick who told authorities he had seen the monster get hit by a train and die. Another tale tells that he was the man having sex with goats and wad driven to madness by a syphilis infection he contracted from the goats.
Though the general consensus is that the tale was told to keep youngsters from going to such a place where certain death was assured.
A brief telling of the legend of the Pope Lick Goatman.
I questioned a few tour guides in Louisville and visited a few local residences in the area of Pope Lick and found out that many had their own personal stories and accounts to relate. local legends which many do go off on wild tangents in each persons telling to fully explain the creature's origins, including that it is a human goat hybrid, and that it was a circus freak who vowed revenge after being mistreated. In one version, the creature escaped after a train derailed on the trestle. Others tell of a depraved perverted escaped insane asylum lunatic that lived with a pack of goats and fathered several, pardon the pun, blue eyed kids, that still exist today.
Another as many believe and tell is of a demented version that claims that the monster is really the twisted reincarnated form of a devil cursed farmer who sacrificed goats in exchange for Satanic or paranormal powers to seek his revenge on the residents of Louisville for stealing his land to make the trestle. Many tales also claim it is his scattered offspring haunt or lurk in the area, these described as ungodly half human soulless creatures who all have inherited their human daddy's piercing human like deep dark blue eyes.
Pope Lick Trestle, is as many state the true stomping grounds or the reputed home of the Pope Lick Monster. Some believe the monster lives under it or uses it as a home base to seek out its victims. Sightings of the Pope Lick Monster are said to happen night and day. The creature is said to not have any set pattern or actual regimented time of night or day to be found. If you are the unlucky individuals that happens to meet the creature then as many believe it is the last time you will be seen alive. Many as you will be told by locals have died after falling from the 100-foot-high rail trestle, and the powers of the goat man is the reason.
The strange powers of this cryptid includes driving people from its territory by wailing, screaming, or throwing stones. The Pope Lick Monster, or it's adolescents, have also been blamed for the mutilation and killing of people and of sheep. The legendary monster has turned the trestle into a site for teenage legend trips. One well noted story is that of a teen that fell from the structure. In 2000, a young man of nineteen years fell to his death from the trestle while attempting to cross it on foot. The web site courier-journal.com carried a time back a well done article of his death for some time on the site but has since removed it.
Though many reports claim the monster travels with a herd or pack of real wild goats. One stern warning many will tell you is that if you see a lone goat in the area you should hightail it as fast as you can.
Local police and other officials are constantly trying to keep monster hunters and teenagers from climbing the dangerous heights to the trestle in search of the monsters existence and legend. The actual trestle has fenced off, certain to try and prevent future death and problems. While the trestle may look relatively harmless the number of accidental deaths that have taken place at the location have been a concern of local law enforcement officials for over spans three generations or more.
A photo of the creel below the imposing train trestle past Jeffersontown near Fisherville.
The Pope Lick Monster is more then often described a being very tall, a well built muscular powerful man like monster with the legs and hooves of a goat. Coarse black, golden brown and white blood stained fur covers its legs, and thin or sparse hair standing up straight on it head between it's horns. Though the young are said by many to sport a full head of hair and a beard as do the females. The smelling of an intense ''goat odor'' in the area is also of great significance in the intense sexual behavior of this creature. So if you smell it many say run for your life.
Many state that during the monsters breeding season. He becomes even aggressive verbal during his breeding season, which many state is late fall and early spring
When the monster is caught off guard stories tell that alarmed, the creature will stomp one foot and produce a high pitched, hissing sound. Also as in normal goats the creature doesn't like rain. Goats will run to the nearest available shelter on the approach of a storm, often arriving before the first drops of rain have fallen. Many believe that this is why it hides beneath the Pope Lick trestle on rainy days and nights. The creature as noted as likened to a goat also has an intense dislike for water puddles and mud.
As one might think this cryptid has more names then just The Pope Lick Monster. Some refer to him as the blue eyed monster, still others call it just the wild goat man creature.
The monster’s body and arms are described as hairless, and its flesh is extremely pale or bluish. The face is described often as the twisted image of a goat and human crossed and sometimes more goat and sometimes described as more human. This as many believe as descriptions too often vary tells that there are more then one Pope Lick goat man at large then just the one lone monster.
A story related to me in email while researching the goat man stated that the creature is said to have many blue eyed half-goat or full goat children in several forms of disfigurement or goat human crossed hybrids resembling itself in appearance. These kids have been spoken of in a few tales I've heard, and I was told that some might be more goat then human as others seem or appear strangely deformed. The strange part is many tell of his kids appearing goatlike might have several un apparent human qualities such as speech and human intelligence rather then that of just a normal domestic goat.
The creature in a few morbid tales is said to hold some human young women and men as captives and use them for breeding stock, and the same with keeping men and forcing them to mate with his pack of she goats that follow him. Doing all this by using it's paranormal or hypnotic powers to do so. Many disappearances are believed to be associated with this. One strange tale tells of a young man who was 20 years old at the time that he disappeared several years ago. He was said to be found one day in the 1990's near the Pope Lick Trestle or beneath it in the creek. He was said to be dirty and nude, heavily scared and covered with thousands of large blood filled ticks. Upon medical examination his body was said to be infested with hook and tape worms, and he had what was described as distinctive signs of syphilis. Babbling incoherently about being the goat man's slave he was admitted to a Psychiatric Hospitals in Louisville, KY where he stayed for 7 years or more until released. He is allegedly living a normal happy life today after years of therapy, but will not speak of his lost years as the goat man's captive. Many believe they know who he is and his name or often these people will tell you they are related to him or know someone that is. Whether this is just a tall tale or a truth it is just one of those stories some like to perpetuate to this day.
Another often told tale tells of a woman in her late 50's found near the trestle wild and feral and that it is believed she is held in a mental hospital in Louisville to this day. Though she is not identified by name or her plight fully explained in detail, many will only say she was taken captive by him in the early 1970's. And that whatever the goat man did her will never be revealed to the public until after she is dead. Tales like these two of finding lost souls who were held captive by the Pope Lick Monster often have no validation or solid proof to be gotten. But as many believe or state why would you want people to know the horrors that you lived that still haunt your life.
To numerous to count urban legends tales exist about the creature's exact origins and the horrid methods it employs to claim its unknowing victims. According to some lurid accounts, the creature uses either hypnosis or a type of paranormal voice mimicry to lure trespassers onto the trestle to meet their death before an oncoming train. Sometimes crying loudly as a lost child or a hurt person screaming for help. Some exacting accounts and told as real life close up encounters reports that it has glowing deep cobalt blue eyes that draw you in, and by the monster holding you in it's gaze you become petrified or paralyzed on the spot. It is said it so uses this power especially when it wants to rape it's victim more so then any other time. Other stories by locals often claim the monster jumps down from the the top of the high trestle onto the roofs of cars passing beneath it. Grabbing unsuspecting victims out through open windows by their hair or faces. Some reports tell of people having ears ripped off, noses broken and teeth knocked out in trying to escape the strong grasp from the dirty hands that grabbed at them. Victims also report that the smell stays on you when touched for several days, and the stench associated with the monster never leaves your memory.
One tale tells of a couple who went looking for the creature and the next day only the hand of the young woman was found missing several fingers that were chewed off. The young man with her was brutally beaten and physically raped, and his face was completely ripped off. This was said to have happened in the late 1980's and he remains in a deep coma to this day. Though this is not verified with any physical documentation. Many tales of the creatures sexual appetite and the fact that it will have sex with anything that crosses it's path is as many believe not just a made up urban legend.
Though such distorted tales of sexual encounters with this monster are often told in many accounts from man and woman alike being it's victim. Might all this just be tales parents tell their children to keep them away from the real dangers of the location or just misconstrued facts to perpetuate the legend is purely left to your own option to believe as truth.
Known incidents involving the monster that were told to me include one a group of Boy Scouts camping on a hillside near the trestle driven from their camp late at night by a creature that screamed and threw stones at them, but realize to this is also Bigfoot behavior.
Yet other seriously told legends tell that it welds an old rusting blood-stained axe or sometime a scythe. The ax as many believe is it's weapon of choice and a sign that the creature has some resemblance of a human inelegance other then just being a animal in nature. The ax many will tell you was taken from the man who fathered it on the day the creature killed him. It has also been said that the very sight of the creature carrying his ax or scythe is so unsettling that those who see it while walking across the trestle are driven to leap off.
The legends have turned the area into a site for legend tripping. There have been a number of deaths and accidents at the trestle since its construction, despite the presence of an 8 foot (2.4 m) fence to keep thrill-seekers out.
Since the 1970s, the Goat man has become the subject of a number of popular urban myths in the deep south. Myths vary, but the Goat man preying on courting couples, or attacking cars parked at the side of the road, are both common themes. There are tales of people saying that they personally know the creature is dead that it was destroyed when it became a victim of the on coming train. And that it's remains were buried in an unmarked grave somewhere beneath the old trestle.
There or those of course who keep this Kentucky myth alive with tales of his unholy brood, child, children which are said to roam the area. It is also told that at one time the monster would steal infants from their cradles as they slept for it to devour. One tale tells that he stole a child and somewhere in it's heart this beast reared this human child it as his very own. The feral being is thought to be what many say roams the area still.
Some tales say he has just a single powerful evil heir that was the sole issue of his rape of a she goat. Others state his issue, kin, offshoot, or offspring or from the rape of several young women he held captive. Whether the monster has a real progeny or not I am sure many new tales will always surface of the Pope Lick Trestle and it's monsters for many years to come.
The most lasting myth or Pope Lick creature or goat man legend seems to have the most detail of the monsters origin. It was recently told to me by a Louisville resident. Mrs Miller a grand lady of 79 years of age on April 13th 2011.
Sorrowfully Ms. Miller passed away June 3rd of this year.
In the late 1800's there was a story of a wild animal or wild man, maybe what we today might classify as a bigfoot, roaming the Canadian wilderness. The creature's presence caught the attention of a circus owner by the name of Silus Garner.
Silus Garner has by some been described as a self made con man, side show owner, a grafter, a circus owner of well respected magnitude.
Please note here that though no actual proof has come forward to support this or his exact existence as such. The name Silus Garner is that of a persons that did exist but, "THE" Silus Garner in question personal info has never been verified as having died in a supposed train wreck at or near the trestle has been accounted for..
As the story continues, Garner offered a hefty reward reward for the elusive wild man creatures capture. And many men set out to brave the deep woods to capture the great beast and collect a $3000.00 dollar reward.
After almost 4 years of searching and stalking the animal Garner finally had gotten word that the great monster was captured, and that a person named Elmo Stanton had personally track down and single handedly capture the beast.
Stanton a small man in stature standing only 5 foot 4 inches tall in his bare feet, is said to have drugged the beast with poison mixture that would have killed an ordinary man. But only rendered the monster unconscious. Through his mastery of chemicals he knew how to keep the monster under control
Garner paid Stanton the handsome reward of $ 3000.00 dollars in gold, and hired him to be the creatures sole keeper, and together the two took their prize on the road. With Stanton telling the amazing story of how the creature fled from him and how he almost died in it's terrible grip. Each time the story of the capture was told by Stanton and Garner the two polished it up until the great capture was said to lasted 3 weeks. They stated as the creature held itself in safety in a large cave and was only captured when it was weakened from lack of food and water and tasted a special potion that Stanton had concocted. Though it was drugged as sated the capture was not easy for it had put up a terrible fight killing 7 of his dogs killing also two men, injuring several others and of course almost killing Stanton also.
The two began to exhibit the Goat monster to small crowds as the great freak of nature in his little show. In time word spread and the wild thing that stunk like a goat with horns on it's head and the body of a man began to draw huge crowds that came to marvel at this true missing link.
The great amounts money Garner and his partner Stanton raked in replaced the bounty he had put on the creature in less then a weeks time. Making the two very rich beyond their belief.
The popularity of this monsters fame grew faster then a fire in august. It was even said to have spread to the ear of Phineas Taylor "P.T." Barnum, the great American showman, businessman, scam artist and entertainer of the time.
And as some might inform you and tell the story that it was he himself also headed to Louisville at the time to see if an offer of $10,000.00 in gold coin dollars might persuade Garner into selling the creature to him to display. But that ain't true. And on that rainy dreadful dark fateful night, while bound for Louisville, lightening struck the track derailing the train and killing Garner and all passengers. Though many will state except for one.
As I hear it told Mrs Miller stated with a firm grasp of remembrance. That story is pure horse shit!
This actually the train disater occured December 20, 1917 and that is the train the monster was on, as was Garner and Stanton traveing in the actual car the monster was housed in.
My great Granny Simmons told me as a child that the monster was on that train and that you could smell it from 4 cars away. She said that when the train was boarded many people had complained and were told that missing link was in the baggage car. I know my great granny Simmons never lied and if she says the monster was on that train it was. At least that as Mrs Miller stated was what her granny told her.
The train with the monster locked in a cage in the last car before the caboose is where many believe it was. And the creature was on it's way to Louisville and might have been at the L&N station at 4:35 p.m.
Arriving in Shepherdsville, the local stopped to back onto a siding to let the passengers off. Before it could clear the main track, a behind schedule and faster through train trying to make up twenty-three minutes between Louisville and Bowling Green slammed into the local's rear-end, splintering its wooden coaches.
The wreck killed fifty-one passengers and injured another forty-eight, making it one of the L&N's greatest disaster. Many believe this was the actual train the monster was on. Thus dismissing the freak lightening strike as a pure fabrication. Excerpt http://bullittcountyhistory.org/bchistory/trainwreck1917.html
Please note *One must also realize in Mrs Miller;s account here that Shepherdsville is actually more or less 85 miles away from Pope Lick Trestle. She bbelieve that the not severly injured monster survive the wreck and followed the tracks until it found a safe place to hide under or near the trestle to nurse it's wounds.
The lists contain the names of those killed, and those injured in the train wreck according to the various sources available to me.
This includes the various newspaper lists, not all of which agreed on who was killed and injured; as well as obituaries and other printed sources.
In those cases where the person was misidentified, or not fully identified, I have provided the corrected names found in other sources such as census and death records. Death certificates have not been found for all of those listed as killed. Indeed, a few of those listed, have not be identified in any other way except in the newspaper lists of the time. Certainly there may have been additional people injured or dead that do not appear here. The name of Silas Garner or Elmo Stanton or not verified as having been on board but who at this point knows for certain.
Because Mrs. Miller's granny told her that many say they saw a strange creature crawling away injured from the train wreck down the tracks running with a limp. The Goat man Mrs Miller's granny said was to have been one of the few survivors herself and others.
It... she said must have crawled for miles until it found a safe place near the trestle to hide. . And that's how he came to reside under the Pope Lick Trestle to this very day.

Pope Lick Monster. A half-man, half-goat creature has been rumored to live under the Norfolk Southern Railroad trestle across Pop Lick Creek and S Pope Lick Rd. near Fisherville in eastern Jefferson County. Stories of encounters have abounded for more than three generations and have served as the mood-setter for multiple romantic encounters between teenage boys and girls, many involving alcohol and tests of "bravery" that require climbing onto the trestle. According to the legend, the creature hypnotizes trespassers into venturing out onto the trestle, thus luring them to their death before an oncoming train. Several people have been killed either on the trestle or by falling from it, and many more have been injured.
A 1988 film, The Legend of the Pope Lick Monster, by local independent producer Ron Schildknecht visualizes the fictional story of teens who venture into the goat-man's domain. The sixteen-minute film recounts the experience of growing up in 1980s Louisville. In it, three teens - brother and sister Ben and Katie and their friend Clancy - acquire a six-pack of beer and head to Pope Lick Rd. intent on testing their bravery. Ben ventures onto the trestle to drink the ceremonial beer and is hypnotized by the goat-man, only to be shaken sensible by the rumble of an oncoming train. Ben is forced to cling by his fingertips to the edge of the trestle as the train whistles by, then safely climbs back up. The goat-man has struck again. (p. 713)

" With more than 1,800 entries, The Encyclopedia of Louisville is the ultimate reference for Kentucky's largest city. For more than 125 years, the world's attention has turned to Louisville for the annual running of the Kentucky Derby on the first Saturday in May. Louisville Slugger bats still reign supreme in major league baseball. The city was also the birthplace of the famed Hot Brown and Benedictine spread, and the cheeseburger made its debut at Kaelin's Restaurant on Newburg Road in 1934. The "Happy Birthday" had its origins in the Louisville kindergarten class of sisters Mildred Jane Hill and Patty Smith Hill. Named for King Louis XVI of France in appreciation for his assistance during the Revolutionary War, Louisville was founded by George Rogers Clark in 1778. The city has been home to a number of men and women who changed the face of American history. President Zachary Taylor was reared in surrounding Jefferson County, and two U.S. Supreme Court Justices were from the city proper. Second Lt. F. Scott Fitzgerald, stationed at Camp Zachary Taylor during World War I, frequented the bar in the famous Seelbach Hotel, immortalized in The Great Gatsby. Muhammad Ali was born in Louisville and won six Golden Gloves tournaments in Kentucky.
The monster was the subject of a 1988 film by Louisville filmmaker Ron Schildknecht called The Legend of the Pope Lick Monster.
The 16 minute, six thousand dollar film premiered on December 29, 1988 at the Uptown Theater. Most of the film was shot at the Pope Lick Trestle, but scenes showing the characters up on the trestle were shot at another safer location. Norfolk Southern railroad officials were very upset about the film, as they thought it would encourage teenagers to visit the trestles. They found one scene in particular dangerously misleading. In the scene the main character, a high school student, narrowly escapes an approaching train by hanging suspended from the side of the trestle.
In reality this would be quite impossible as there are few people that would have the strength to hang on for the 5 to 7 minutes it takes for the train to clear the 772-foot trestle; in addition, the vibrations from the train are so strong that the ground beneath the trestle shakes as the train passes, making hanging from the trestle to avoid being hit virtually impossible. Because railroad officials were worried that the film would add to the death toll, the Norfolk Southern railroad issued a statement, read at the premiere, which warned of the trestle's dangers and informed the audience that anyone caught on the trestle could be prosecuted for trespassing.
Production on another film about the Pope Lick Monster begins preproduction in March 2011. Greg Brock of Silver Chain Films and Tory Jones of Jonestown Films are co-producing the film. The film will be a fictional portrayal of the Legend of the monster. The film is entitled "Pope Lick."

“The Real Goat Man” In America
The largest, frequent and most frightening majority of this strange cryptid sightings has been always associated with the southern parts of the United States. Sightings are numerous through out the United States and often noted in the months of October - May. The southern "Goat man" is reported as very sexually aggressive, especially towards teenage lovers. It is often seen carrying off bloody human body parts from accident scenes, and its strange activities include damaging cars and killing small helpless animals. There are also unsubstantiated reports of the Maryland and Louisiana Goat man known for actually rape and killing male and female humans indiscriminately.
Descriptions of these creatures usually vary from sighting to sighting. They are described as ranging from 3 foot tall to 10 foot. Eye color is most often described as blue, though red or orange and a few cases have stated they were a glowing yellow. The creature is said to have a terrible stench which precedes it in sightings and lingers for up to an hour afterwards. those that have been physically assaulted or molested by the creature in their telling say the smell is something they will never forget. The goat man stench or odor is described as smelling like a wet dog and a rotting corpse mingled with a hint of raw sewerage. In a few accounts the creatures breath is said to be worse smelling then the monster itself. To learn more also visit here: The Real Goat man And His Kin
Real Monsters, Gruesome Critters, and Beasts from the Darkside by Brad Steiger
BY KEVIN TROSCLAIR, Contributing Writer
Brad Steiger is a force to be reckoned with in the field of paranormal studies. Author of nearly 200 books on the subject, he can certainly be described as an “expert” in a field where genuine experts are seriously lacking. His knowledge and expertise is amply demonstrated in his newest release, REAL MONSTERS, GRUESOME CRITTERS, AND BEASTS FROM THE DARKSIDE.
One of his best books yet, REAL MONSTERS is full of the kind of stories that we have come to expect from him – the kind you have to leave the light on just to get half-way through! Every imaginable creature of the monstrous world is covered in great detail, with supporting case studies and contributions from individuals whose real-life encounters rival almost anything imaginable. Steiger offers a keen analysis of many such contributions; some others he – significantly – let speak for themselves.
Giant birds, hidden places where dinosaurs still walk the earth, reptilian and amphibious creatures, and many more join the ranks of the more familiar vampires and werewolves, ominous black dogs and huge cats, and sea monsters such as the beast of Loch Ness. But Steiger goes further, taking the reader into the minds of individuals who claim to have experienced alien abductions close hand (interestingly, Steiger groups some alien beings in the “monster” category…) and of killers who claim that monstrous discarnate entities have caused them to commit awful. He explores the frightening world of “shadow beings” and the equally-troubling possibility that huge communities of advanced beings – angelic and demonic – thrive within the confines of our “hollow” earth.
Steiger’s books are always anticipated by fans and skeptics alike because he never passes judgment on the cases and material he provides, always leaving the reader to take away his own thoughts and impressions. Readers familiar with the supernatural and paranormal will enjoy the book as entertaining and thought-provoking; those borderline individuals for whom the world of the paranormal is a curiosity will find Steiger’s style informative and open-ended. In fact, it has been said of Brad Steiger that you can pick up any of his books, be it his very first, one in the middle, or this latest release, and you will not be disappointed, but will come away much more enlightened about the realm of the unseen than ever before.
In addition to harrowing real-life accounts, Steiger also frequently references the writings of other authors such as H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, Jules Verne, and H.G. Wells as illustration that some entities or beings once dismissed as fictitious may very well be more real than at first assumed. Not only real but also OUT THERE, lurking, waiting just on the edge of darkness and our imagination …
REAL MONSTERS is full of the stuff that nightmares are made of and should be read in the dark, with a flashlight or a candle, and plenty of (human) friends for company! Perfect for Halloween scares, or any dark and stormy night, REAL MONSTERS, GRUESOME CRITTERS, AND BEASTS FROM THE DARKSIDE is a must-have for any fan of the supernatural and anyone who has an interest in the paranormal.
Pick it up in time for Halloween and have a frighteningly good time!
Spotlighting news articles, historical accounts, and first-person interviews, this chronicle of human interactions with monsters will convince even the most hardened skeptic of the existence of the bogeyman, bigfoot, werewolves, and swamp creatures. Offering an array of wild reports—from the police officer who begrudgingly responded to a call about a long-haired woman flying over a suburban neighborhood only to find himself calling for backup when she attacked his patrol car to the motorist whose headlights illuminated a seven-foot tall, wolf-like creature that stood on its hind legs—this historical record highlights scary and unbelievable narratives. From slightly demented humans to spine-tingling paranormal encounters, each outlandish occurrence is detailed with thorough research and recounted with a storyteller's crafted voice.

Real Monsters, Gruesome Critters, and Beasts from the Darkside by Brad Steiger Publisher: Visible Ink Press
It's Alive!
As an avid reader of many paranormal books the intense great works of the acclaimed Brad Steiger and his wife Sherry line my many shelves. I always find myself often going to them for references or just when I need a good scare of what the paranormal world around us really is. And on pins and needles in the past few years I await his new volume each year with great anticipations. And his latest creation certainly surpasses my personal expectations to any degree.
Steiger’s grand vast volumes of works are always the pinnacle of superlative perfection.
Real Monsters, Gruesome Critters, and Beasts from the Darkside by Brad Steiger is certainly his latest and greatest compilation and is a soon to be a prestigious exalted number 1 Best Seller. His greatest collection of over 250 of the most bloodcurdling and bone-chillingly fascinating and true monster stories that will certainly go down in the annals as the most contemporary catalog of people in the paranormal field that have great stories that they they have taken time to document. Steiger in his impeccable mad scientist style seeks out in the dead of night or the light of day the most interesting catalog of creatures of legend and myth. It will of course have you looking over your shoulder at the shadows in t he corner of your eye and wondering about the unseen things that prowl the the fringe of reality lying in wait.
Just as Mary Shelly crafted her monster from parts and pieces so does Brad Steiger in his monumentous attempt to create his perfect monster masterpiece of late.
Instead of using stolen limbs from rotting stolen corpses Steiger carefully and deliberately crafts his monster from the many eyewitness reports, investigations and highly detailed facts and experiences gathered by many of the most notable propionate names in the Paranormal field and research of the 21st Century.
CONTRIBUTIONS FROM SUCH MASTER MONSTER HUNTERS AS (TO NAME ONLY A FEW) NICK REDFERN, LINDA GODFREY, DRS. DAVE AND SHARON OESTER, LOREN COLEMAN, TIM SWARTZ, BRENT RAYNES, SANDY NICHOLS, MICAH HANKS, TIMOTHY GREEN BECKLEY, WM. MICHAEL MOTT, ALYNE PUSTANIO, ERIC ALTMAN, PAUL BARTHOLOMEW, SCOTT CORRALES, DR. FRANKLIN R. RUEHL, AND PASTOR ROBIN SWOPE.
When just picking up this wonderful large paperback volume, you will just by glancing through the pages notice that these intense images of monster art just jumps right out at you.
Many of the well defined horrific and overwhelming images here in this book are from the more then exceptional talents of master Artist Ricardo Pustanio. Many of the images in his contribution to Steiger's work seem to be alive and either crawl or slither from the pages perchance to devour us. Bill Oliver eye for graphic mixtures from his personalized style brings a fluid mix to the his great book. And the more then strange distorted limbs and weird hands of the cartoonist styling's of DAN WOLFMAN ALLEN..
With the horrific tales of of real haunted-cursed men and woman children who shape shift under the light of a waxing moon. These unholy half-human, half-distorted mutated beasts roaming our countryside's and urban settings stalking it's unaware prey. Over the years the highly well respected Linda Godfrey has brought forward her many glimpses and insights of the deep rooted never ending investigative search of the werewolf of Bray Road. this as we know has certainly brought her work to the fore front and so does her spotlight shine upon it's strange folkloric myth and it's dead real living reality. And Alyne Pustanio's personal research and revealing of the strange facts and known secrets of what many call the Cajun Loupe Garou. And with the inclusion of monster hunter supreme Nick Redferns' keen in depth observations, research and insights into Phantom Hounds, and The Notorious Monkey Men of the British Isles, this volume certainly keeps the reader on the edge of their seats wondering what might be creeping in the darkness around them.
UFO abductors seek to create human-alien hybrids unfold from the pages. As do the serious stories of encounters with Lake monsters, lizard men and creepy mermaids who troll the waters shores stalking their living prey.
I personally have always enjoyed the many tales some tell of Dinosaurs that terrorize the lost jungles, and the chanced run ins with Yeti and Bigfoot in the United States.
If your searching for facts and not fictions of displaced Big cats, black dogs, and giant snakes prowl neighborhoods look no further then this prestigious work.
This Book is the most awaited volume of the 21st century. An exquisite masterpiece for everyone to seek out and add to their collection, and of course may I state, certainly the most precious of all coveted books one could ever hope to personally own. In rating this fine work against other books of it's type there is no comparison.
