| If anyone is intrested in helping, I am on a quest to find either the Uniforms or Swords of both my relatives. The Smiley family has become so diffused thru the years it is like finding a needle in a haystack . I have tried more than once to communicate with these family members to find out what they know or have of theirs to no avail and fear that these military items have been lost forever. Perhaps hanging in a pawn shop somewhere. Please let me know if anyone stumbles across info on this. |

Tell me was his name on it and do you think he is in the picture I posted on the poll page?

You probally know this already.
NEWTON J. SMILEY, trustee of Marshall County, is a son of H.B. and Sarah
(Lowry) Smiley, natives of Kentucky and South Carolina, respectively. The
father's chief occupation was farming, though in early life he worked at
the carpenter's trade. He was a soldier under Jackson in the war of 1812,
and having lived to see the return of seventy-five winters was called from
the trials and tribulations of earth. The mother was in her ninety-third
year when she died. Our subject was born August 9, 1833 in the Bedford
fraction of Marshall County, and was of Irish-Scotch descent. He was
educated in the country schools, and having farmed until 1861, he
volunteered in Company G, Thirty-second Tennessee Infantry as a private,
and was one of the brave boys who defended Fort Donelson. After his
capture and imprisonment at Indianapolis, Ind., he was exchanged at
Vicksburg and re-entering the service was promoted to first lieutenant.
After nearly four of faithful service he returned home and soon after
engaged in the mercantile business in which he was successful, though twice
burned out. Previous to the war, in 1857, he wedded Catherine E. Hall, by
whom he had seven children, all living. Both he and wife are members of
the Cumberland
Presbyterian Church. Like his father before him he is a warm Democrat. In
1884 he was elected to the responsible position that he is now
occupying. In connection with his office he is engaged in tilling the soil.
Surnames: Hall, Lowry, Smiley

I have found a physical discription on 1st Lt. Newton J. smiley from my family records:
Newton Smiley was a short man, with thick dark hair, he was very proud of his military service and wore his uniform on special occasions right up until his death> Wether we have any funeral photos in existance is questionable. I personally believe he was buried in his uniform like many were in that day, and his sword is most likely with his remains. I will continue to search though until I get a satifactory explination.
Thank you for your help.

grax,
I viewed the photo above. ( Marshall county Men ) I get a strong feeling from the man on the bottm row,5th from the left. It is like the picture is standing out for me. I get a very strong feeling from this mans image.
He also has facial features that resemble later photos of Smileys. Same facial features. Im sure the officers would have been the focal point in the print. |

| I have found another spector of what may be N.J. Smileys ghost that I picked out of the original enlarged ghost photo. It has the same physical character as the image in the late war marshall county picture. Same hat, same trousers, same shirt. The height is proportional also. Tell me how to attach the photo on here and I will post the two togeather. or you can search the enlarge photo yourselves for the mans image between the two trees to the extreme left of the enlarged picture. |

I think the ghost of your family member is are leading you to something and thats the reason your on this jouney too find out your answers. I think ghost lead people to their unmarked graves on the many haunted real battlefields of America. I think many are in communication with spirits and don't know it.
I hope you find what yoour looking for. has anything new developed in your current search ...I suggest you let it all come as it may. You better follow your haunted destiny to where and who it leads you to. |

Yes, I get better and better proof every day I go out on a expedition.
I am currently finding pictures of deceased persons in my photos around my aura. ( Your body energy) these photos are unbelieveable, like a painting or portrait the faces are clearly seen. I am currently cataloging them and assigning names to try and differentiate between which ghosts are mine and which are new ones. Identifying ghosts between photo shoots is nessesary for me to get a clear idea of whom I am seeing in the present. Relatives, Perhaps not. I have also begun collecting EVP's -thanks to a very good and well known friend of mine, whom helped me buy some equiptment. Hope to have some interesting audio for all of you soon. HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU ALL! |

| Hanged in the garden for being a Royalist during the Civil War, Lady de la Pole now continues to walk the grounds of the building. There are also reports of a phantom feline that looks quite normal, until it walks through something solid. |
