I have seen what I believe to be ghosts there. I was reenacting there a few years ago and was approached by an indian medicine Man while I was sleeping alone on the ground by the east side of the barracks. This area was once an entrance to the fort and there was a W/C and water resevoir or well at that spot..
That night I had been awoken by an irritable feeling and sat up to look around, and saw him.
Dressed in full customary garb ;He held up his hand in the traditional indian way, as to say to me "Dont get up" walked right past me within inches and instantly dissapeared before my eyes. I did not feel his footsteps as he walked by. There were no indian reenactors there that weekend and I had asked sevral persons the next day, all answered in the negative. There are sevral indian burial mounds there and some were used to make the earthen walls of the outer portion of the star fort. These have since been protected by fencing with barb wire across the top. There have been many unearthed discoverys there recently. I have also seen strange lights emminating from the 3rd floor and attic of the barracks that look as if they travel across the entire upstairs. I know this is impossible because the building is seperated into three seprate segments which would stop anyone from traversing the entire top floors in one fell swoop. |

| Thank you all for your posts. I am working on alot of other stories right now, and doing investigations thruout the year to collect more evidence of hauntings in historical places. Ft. Wayne being one of them because of its accesability, plus the people that run it there are very kind indeed. In the close future I will be Bringing back to life some old folktales from around Michigan; exploring the places that have been just stories of the past, to find evidence that will turn the folktales into fact. Keep your Eyes ,Ears and Mind open . |

The Civil War was one of the bloodiest wars ever fought especially since it was waged on American soil. It pitted brother against brother, family against family and nearly split our great Union in two. Approximately one million men were killed or wounded. Those that died and gave their lives for their cause only seemed to strengthen the country after the fighting finally stopped.
Two of the most bloody battles fought were Chickamauga and Stones River, both in Tennessee. Nearly 125,000 men fought at Chickamauga from the morning of September 19th to the 20th of 1863. When it was all over, the combined casualties numbered 37,129. They compare with 23,582 at Sharpsburg (Antietam) known as the "bloodiest day of American history" and 43,454 for the three days of fighting with larger armies at Gettysburg. |

I have no need to fear anything. I have many spirits, that surround me on a near constant basis, I feel no threat of harm from them but a warm sense of belonging somehow. It seemed strange in the beginning but once I understood, it has become actually comforting. |

Historic Fort Wayne
6053 West Jefferson at the Detroit River in southwest Detroit
Although the United States won its independence in the Revolutionary War, tensions with England remained since Americans presumed that the British wished to overturn the outcome of that war. President Washington assumed that their military defeat of England gave the US control of the upper Midwest including Michigan. The British were reluctant to recognize such a loss of territory so English troops remained in Fort Lernault into the 1790s. The British also supplied local Indians with guns and munitions to fight the United States forces. President Washington then appointed the Revolutionary War hero, General |
