Imaginary Lovers Could They Actually Be A Real Ghost?
Elly Luella Hyatt
Many in the paranormal community today often believe that the children who have supposed imaginary friends are actually communicating and having encounters with real ghosts. And the same applies for those individuals that have dream lovers and what they believe to be imaginary sexual encounters with the dead.
Dream lovers are actually something that goes back through the ages. Many attributed through out history these nocturnal romances as being of the Devil and involving demons called Incubi and Succubus.
An incubus (plural incubi) is a demon in male form supposed to lie upon sleepers, especially women, in order to have sexual intercourse with them, according to a number of mythological and legendary traditions. Its female counterpart is the succubus. An incubus may pursue sexual relations with a woman in order to father a child, as in the legend of Merlin. Some sources indicate that it may be identified by its unnaturally cold penis. Religious tradition holds that repeated intercourse with an incubus or succubus may result in the deterioration of health, or even death.
Many old legends claims that demons, ghosts and even Satan himself rise from hell to have intercourse with the living. they attack both male and female with no hesitation or thought to the persons safety or mental well being. The fact are they sexually prey on human beings. They generally prey upon the victim when they are sleeping, though it has been reported that females and males while exploring haunted locations have been attacked while fully lucid. More women even here now in the 21st century often report the vivid dreams and physical sensations cause by these nightmare demons and ghost that haunt them.
But men so it seems to be, are more closed mouth about the paranormal sexual encounters. they to often fearing it as showing a sign of weakness or public and community ridicule and embarrassment. Others who I have spoken to in confidence relate that such sexual coitus with ghosts is something they would best leave un - investigated. Basically beyond their expertises or a fear that it might happen to them.
I was recently in contact with a male ghost hunter paranormal investigator from Texas who wishes to remain anonymous.
He reported to me his many strange sexual encounters with what he believed to be the dead. And also the realization of what was occurring to him was real and not an imaginary sexual fantasy that really haunted him. This strange force that he states stills tortures him to this day is very similar or in fact he believes the one that haunted the entity victim Carla Moran.
Carla Moran is a fictional character in the 1981 horror movie, The Entity. There has been speculation as to whether the character is based on a real person, either named Carla Moran or with a different name. n 1978, author Frank De Felitta published a novel titled The Entity. A movie version (by director Sidney J. Furie) was released in 1981 and subsequently became a cult classic. Doctors Barry Taff and Kerry Gaynor, who have written about this case as representing real events, served as technical advisors on the film.
The actions of "The Entity" depicted in the film and described in the book mirror those in the stories of unseen yet apparently physical paranormal forces or beings such as poltergeists and demons. The depicted events are also very similar to the Smurl haunting, with a shadowy man-like apparition being witnessed and the sexual assault upon the victim(s).
During the years after the movie, various women have appeared on television, claiming to be Carla Moran. The last such person as of 2004 was an elderly woman who, in 2001, told news reporters that she had cancer.
In a live interview with George Noory on Coast to Coast Am November 17, 2006, Dr Barry Taff verified that Carla Moran had died in July 25, 2006 from multiple myeloma thus ending research in the attacks.
In a live interview with Todd Bates on Haunted Voices radio on March 3, 2007, Dr Barry Taff claimed that Carlotta Moran is a pseudonym and that he has no knowledge as to her current situation, nor whether or not she is alive Clearly there is a conflict of information.
The incubus or succubus is sometimes confused with the legendary "Old Hag" syndrome. The Old Hag episode, however, is usually restricted to an unpleasant feeling of great pressure on the chest and not a ghostly sexual encounter. Some believe and sate it is the first signs of Sleep Apnea or possibly panic attacks. But in truth many who have had them will openly tell you that these occurrences are something very real and not contrived or medically solvable.
This man (who I will call Ghost Hunter X) had always had a interest in the paranormal. From early childhood he had had many encounters with the dead. His supernatural visions and sightings and high level brushes with real paranormal activity seems to have been something he could never escape.
The ghost that still haunts him to this day has been sexually abusing him since his early teens. In his reaching for help he had over the years contacted many who have explored such things. He had even contacted the Great Hans Holzer at one point explaining his situation but Holzer told him of what he spoke was out of his realm of expertise. Holzer refers him to a psychiatrist and a Catholic Priest. Ghost hunter X was more mortified at having to reveal his plight to others and decided to keep his paranormal sexual tryst to himself for a while.
Over time from age 22 - 36 the sexual encounters began to become more frequent. In his dreams a beautiful female ghost as he described would seduce him as the encounter would work it way to a sexual conquest. Then in the midst of dreaming he would then awaken only to find that he was pinned to his bed by a strange force as he laid there with great dread and fear.
The sexual assault would continue as he was now awake for 30 - 45 minutes longer. Or at least until he was sexually aroused once more. Though he was paralyze and could not move or speak. But the blurry ecto cloud (as he describes it) that hung over him was more real as was the physical sensations of sexual intercourse.
Not everyone who claims to have had a sexual encounter with a ghost or real spirit form actually openly believes that the entity is demonic force from the depths of hell. Some feel that these are simply passionate and amorous ghosts. But the fact that these ghosts cannot be identified as male or female often disturbs those who have such encounters. these forces many believe can manifest as female if they choose or as a male.
Ghost Hunter X describe the encounters as starting gradually over a period of several nights at the age of 15. The ghost or entity first appeared to him as what he recalled as being the imaginary friend he had in early childhood. This imaginary friend was a red headed evil minded quick witted boy he called Teddy.
By the time he reached puberty he had forgotten all about this invisible boy who always made wise cracks. But after his first encounters with the what he thought was a female ghosts the haunting took a serious turn. The face of the female ghosts turned into his imaginary friends who laughed at him in his dreams, and told him. "You see I fooled you again." "And I will never let you go."
And little did he know at the time that this strange nightmare would actually continue throughout his adult life.
Imaginary friends, also known as "imaginary companions", are by what many believe to be pretend characters often created by children. though those of us in the field today believe that many are actual entities or spirit forces and ghosts plaguing the living and sexually preying upon them.
Imaginary friends often function as tutelaries (or perform a tutelary function) when they are engaged by the child in play activity. Imaginary friends may exist for the child into adolescence and sometimes adulthood. Imaginary friends often have elaborate personalities and behaviors. Although they may seem very real to their creators, studies have shown that children understand that their imaginary friends are not real. but those of us that ave encountered the ghost the pretend to be our fiends will often tell you another tale that might have you thinking twice about what is really going on in our heads. States ghost Hunter X.
A tutelary spirit serves as the animistic guardian, patron or protector of a particular place, geographic feature, person, lineage, nation, culture or occupation. where as these spirits seem to learn our weakness and prey upon or vices and sexual desires.
According to several theories of psychology, an understanding of a child's conversations with their imaginary friends can reveal a lot about the anxieties and fears of that child as well as the child's aspirations and perception of the world. Some children report that their "imaginary friends" manifest themselves physically and are indistinguishable from "real" people, while others say that they see their friends only in their heads.
The Roman religion had dozens of tutelary spirits, such as Diana of Aricia, who watched over a sacred grove at Aricia, or the goddess Levana, who watched over young children. The Lares and Penates were local tutelary deities, as was the genius loci, a spirit said to be present in certain places. A person's own individual guardian spirit was a genius.
In Shinto, the many spirits, or kami, can be seen as tutelaries.
Chinese folk religion, both past and present, includes a myriad of tutelary deities. Exceptional individuals may become deified after death. Guan Yu is a well-known tutelary from the Three Kingdoms period.
In Korean shamanism, jangseung and sotdae were placed at the edge of villages to frighten off demons. They were also worshipped as deities.
Tibetan Buddhism has yidams as tutelaries. Dakini is the patron of those who seek knowledge.
In the Sanatana Dharma, tutelary deities are known as ishta-devata. Devas can also be seen as tutelaries. Shiva is patron of yogis and renunciants.
Catholicism and Orthodox Christianities each have many tutelaries, some of which are shared. These may be patron saints as intercessors and advocates in heaven of a nation, place, craft, activity, class, or person or guardian angels.
For instance, the Christian belief that when Saint Veronica gave Jesus her veil to wipe his forehead, the image of His face miraculously impressed upon it, made the nineteenth century Church declare her the patron saint of photographers. Occasionally, patron saints are called tutelary saints and so reflect their origin.
In Islam, tutelary deities exist as djinns, or "genies". It is notable, however, that the Arabic word is of a completely different origin, although it has similarities with genius both phonetically and by meaning.
Native American religion, (see also Animism, Shamanism) has extensive and varied systems of zoomorphic tutelaries, (also known as power animals). In Mesoamerica these tutelary power animals are called Nagual.
In many of the animistic African religions, tutelaries in a variety of forms. The Binou cult of the Dogon people of Mali have totems around their villages.
Real Sex With Spirits Ghosts And Demons
A number of secular explanations have been offered for the origin of the incubus legends. They involve the medieval preoccupation with sin, especially sexual sins of women. Victims may have been experiencing waking dreams or sleep paralysis. Also, nocturnal arousal, orgasm or nocturnal emission could be explained by the idea of creatures causing an otherwise guilt-producing and self-conscious behavior. Alternately, the influence of incubi could also have been invoked to explain otherwise "unexplainable" pregnancies out of wedlock.
Purported victims of incubi could have been the victims of sexual assault by a real person. Rapists may have attributed the rapes of sleeping women to demons in order to escape punishment. A friend or relative may have assaulted the victim in her sleep. The victims and, in some cases the clergy, may have found it easier to explain the attack as supernatural rather than confront the idea that the attack came from someone in a position of trust.
In folklore that stems from medieval legend[clarification needed], a succubus (plural succubi) is a demon who takes the form of a woman to seduce men in dreams to have sexual intercourse. In modern times, a succubus may or may not appear in dreams and is often depicted as highly attractive, while in the past succubi were frightening and demonic. The male counterpart is the incubus. First attested 1387, derived from Late Latin succuba "strumpet", used to describe the supernatural being as well. From succubare "to lie under", from sub- "under" and cubare "to lie".They are also believed to be vampires in some cultures. Earlier stories of them were said to drink blood from their sleeping victims or take blood from the willing. The legend of this account was first established in 300 B.C. maybe older.
Succubi draw energy from men to sustain themselves, often until the victim becomes exhausted or dies. In one such story, a man in the town of Koblenz is bewitched by a succubus, with whom he is forced to repeatedly fornicate in the presence of his wife. The story says that, "After an incredible number of such bouts, the poor man at last sinks to the floor utterly exhausted and disgusted beyond belief." From mythology and fantasy, Lilith and the Lilin (Jewish) and Lilitu (Sumerian) are in redactive Christian fables (folktales not part of official Christian theology), considered forms of succubi.
According to the Malleus Maleficarum, or "Witches' Hammer", written by Heinrich Kramer (Insitoris) in 1486, a succubus collects semen from the men she sleeps with, which incubi then use to impregnate women, thus explaining how demons could apparently sire children despite the traditional belief that they were incapable of reproduction. Children so begotten were supposed to be those that were born deformed, or more susceptible to supernatural influences.
The Carla Moran Incubus
Most reading this I am sure have seen the movie The Entity. The story of Carla Moran, a women apparently haunted and repeatedly raped by an Incubus Demon. The movie it self is not how the original case happened. For instance the ending where they trapped the demon in liquid ice never really happened, it was added for dramatic effect.
Carla Moran awakens one night to find herself being assaulted by an unseen presence. Terrified of what's happening to her, and shunned by friends and family who think she's lost her mind, she seeks help from parapsychologists. The researchers soon discover that evil spiritual force has been drawn to Carla and is responsible for the violent attacks. The question now, however, is how do they stop it? Based on a true story.
However in 1974 a women named Carlotta Moran was living with her sons and daughter in California USA, when quite suddenly an unseen entity that was said to smell foul like rotting meat would physically attack Carla and even rape her in her bed and sometimes in front of her sons and daughter, sometimes she reported that two smaller entities were also present that helped hold her down. Not surprisingly anyone she told about the attack believed she was crazy and inflicting the bruises on her self, especially the Dr she was sent to see.
But two DR's Barry Taff and Kerry Gaynor both Parapsychologists took her claims more seriously and agreed to investigate the Moran household, while there, they took some Polaroid photos of Carla's bedroom, in which appeared strange figures and lights, but when the photos were developed the pictures were nearly always blank. Fascinated the Parapsychologists decided to help Carla with her unexplained goings on.
Over time they caught some more promising photos, one of a the strange lights often seen in the room. The Dr's also saw shadowy figures walking in and out of the rooms that Carla's eldest son had also witnessed. The eldest son had also been harmed by the spirit one evening when trying to defend his mother from yet another attack.
Soon after Carla and her sons moved out of the home and away apparently to Texas where the attacks slowly decreased and become less frequent.
As to what the entities could have been many opinions have been formed, one was that it was the spirit of an ex-boyfriend of Carla's, who was abusive and an alcoholic that had died a few years previously. Another is that it was an ancient Incubus demon, demons that are said to rape women while they sleep.
No one today knows where Carla is, or who she really is, as after she moved to Texas she wanted to be left alone and went under a different name so no one really knows if she is now dead or alive, but some women have come forward on TV chat shows claiming to be Carla, but all were dismissed as hoaxers. Some even claim she never existed, but this would not make sense being there are photos, documentation, and notes on the case that the psychologists still claim to be the truth.
“The Entity” haunting: The true story of Doris Bither
The investigation on August 22, 1974, in Culver City California was to be like any other one Dr. Barry Taff had done. Believing that this would be an open and shut case they showed up at Doris Bither’s house. Not expecting much. Little did they know this would be one of the biggest cases in the annals of paranormal history.
Dr. Barry Taff and his associate Kerry Gaynor were overheard talking about the paranormal by a woman in a local bookstore. The woman approached the two men and told them that her house was haunted. She gave Kerry Gaynor some details of the haunting, in which Gaynor told her that he would discuss this with his associate.
Dr. Barry Taff and Kerry Gaynor arrived at the 11547 Braddock Dr. Culver City home on August 22, 1974. Doris Bither, a petite woman, in her 30s greeted them. Doris Bither lived in the small home with her six year-old daughter and her three sons. Her daughter was six years old, and her boys were ten, thirteen and sixteen.
The house at the time was in shambles. Squalid living conditions and a tumultuous relationship between the mother and male children is what investigative team observed upon their first visit. The investigators reported a feeling of overpressure in their ears while being inside the home. According to Taff, the house was twice condemned by the city.
11547 Braddock Dr. Culver City CA.
The infamous “Entity” house
From what is known, Doris Bither suffered abuse from her parents as well as had several abusive relationships with men. There was obvious tension between the three young boys and the mother. The psychodynamics of the home were extremely negative. It seems that the boys, especially the eldest, would harbor some dark and resentful feelings towards their mother. The unconscious mind that is troubled by a physically or verbally abusive environment and negative upbringing is like a lightning rod to paranormal activities. Either attracting poltergeist activity or psychosomatically creating it.
Doris Bither claimed that spirits would physically attack her. The reports ranged from Doris walking around her home and bumping into the ghosts, to actual spectral rape. Of course, Taff and Gaynor were skeptical of all this. Ghost apparitions are a hard thing to prove and collect evidence for (from a scientific perspective). “Ghostly rape” is even harder to believe. It was not until they saw the bruises in her inner thighs and all over her body, as well as people outside the family corroborating by testifying that they had also seen apparitions that both investigators started to take heed as to what Doris was saying. Doris claimed that the ghosts were of Asian men. The children, also saw these beings. The visions were so frequent that they children dubbed one of the more prominent ghost as “Mr. Whose-it.”
This is a story from the show "Sightings" about the events that were made into the movie "The Entity"
The claim of rape by these beings is one of the most interesting aspects of the case. Doris Bither reported that two of the beings were the smallest ones and would hold her down while the biggest or tallest one of them would rape her. Dori’s eldest son would admit to seeing her mother being tossed around the room. In one instance he tried to intervene and was thrown across the room by the unseen force.
To both investigators, this must have been the most bizarre claim to date. How can you prove “spectral rape” or even claim it? it would seem that a person would have to be insane to even admit this. The team decided to setup shop and brought in high-speed cameras and photographers as well as other investigators to help capture something on tape. In a famous report, all investigators and equipment, as well as Doris, were in the small bedroom. Cramped and anxious to see any paranormal activities, they decided to have Doris conjure up the beings by having her call them. Doris began swearing and yelling at the spirits while 30 or so investigators were crammed in her room.
To much surprise, lights started manifesting around the room. As Doris kept provoking the beings, a greenish mist started to form in a corner. As if it was coiling, the green mist started swirling and growing. Within seconds the form of a man’s upper torso started to become visible in the mist. Very large and a lot of muscles is what they reported seeing. The torso of the being did not show facial details, but did show the investigators musculature. From what they gathered, this was a male entity. An investigator soon fainted after seeing this.
Doris Bither in mid paranormal activity. Notice how the orb free floating. It’s arc never bends with the back wall’s corner as would be expected if it was projected onto the wall.
No matter how many high-speed cameras were setup to capture this, or that the team even had professional camera men present; none of this ever came out on film. The pictures only shows what appears to be a free floating arc light in the middle of the room as well as some light orbs. The most famous and incredible of these photographs is the one that shows Doris sitting on a bed, investigators surrounding her and the free floating arc of light in the middle of the picture. What’s incredible and equally unbelievable is that the arc of light appears smooth, even though this is a room with corners and one would expect bends in the arc as when someone uses a projector to display an image and the image hits corners in a room. The image will bend. The photographic evidence produce by the team shows the arc of light floating above Doris Bither with no bends, even though behind it, we see the room’s corner.
Conjuring up the ghosts, an arc of light is photographed (Doris Bither sitting on the bed)
Dr. Taff also reported that the eldest son would go on a say that the activities intensified when ever he played certain music. Black Sabbath & Uriah Heep were the albums played. The songs that mention or were about devil worshiping is what seemed to upset the poltergeist. Asking the boy to play the songs in question, Dr. Taff did observe that the lights and orbs did increase.
The investigative team observed lights and poltergeist activity for about two and a half months. As time went by, the activities decreased.
It is important to point out a few factors in this case; Doris’ addiction to alcohol and her being abusive and belligerent almost on a daily basis, as well her unwillingness to seek help for her abuse and deal properly with it. Because of her refusal to properly deal with her own psychotic issues, I believe that her energy and the energy in her home manifested itself as poltergeist phenomenon.
We have to take into consideration that the paranormal activities were extremely powerful only when Doris was present in the home. Doris almost always in a drunken stupor seemed to be the center of it all. While intoxicated, Doris would attract the phenomenon almost on queue. There were times when she was present with the team and was not under the influence of alcohol that the poltergeist did not manifest itself. Which we can only conclude that when Doris’ mind was clouded and her inhibitions minimized, her psychic kinetic energy took over.
It is not a far stretch of imagination to say that there were some very concerning underlying themes in this case. Let’s take for example how Doris claimed that there were three entities that attacked her. These entities controlled her life and to some extent oppressed her. It will not be a stretch, from a psychological stand point, that these entities could have been a physical manifestation of the relationship Doris had with her own three sons. From the reports of Dr. Taff, we know that her relationship with her sons was not a Norman Rockwell painting. As I discuss this event with my fiancee, she makes a very good and intelligent point: Doris had suffered abuse almost all her life. The fact that she abused alcohol and self-medicated to avoid the post-traumatic stress from her abuse could have had a metaphysical effect in her life.
My fiancee has the following thoughts. One, Doris Bither could have been extremely psychic or “sensitive”. Doris could have had a great talent, but her own refusal to deal with her past abuse and the fact that she self-medicated and kept her mind clouded did not let her use that talent. Instead, because of her addiction and self hate, she could have manifested this poltergeist as another way (besides the alcohol) of attacking herself.
My fiancee is an intelligent person, and extremely gifted in psychiatry. Especially abnormal psychology. It is from her, that I take the following theories:
Doris Bither and her sons (especially the eldest) could have been psychic. It is well known that parents sometimes pass down their psychic abilities to their kids. In other words, psychic parents produce psychic kids. If the parent was psychic, and the kids were psychic, the tumultuous relationship in the home could have produced a staggering amount of psychic kinetic energy. Enough energy to physically manifest poltergeist activity. The feelings that Dori’s kids could have had against her and her addiction can be represented by the Hephaestus Syndrome. Hephaestus being the Greek god of fire and metallurgy, was kicked off Mount Olympus by his abusive mother. Hephaestus held a very turbulent relationship with his mother. Chaos and love combined in a love/hate relationship.
The same way Doris’ sons could have had a relationship with Doris. A strong love/hate relationship fueled by past abuse, alcohol and psychic abilities is a powerful concoction for poltergeist or psychic kinetic energy. We can formulate this manifestation of the “spectral rape” by Doris’ description of her attackers: two of the smaller entities held her down, while the biggest one raped her. We can speculate that the Bither household was very unstable. Her coming-of-age son (the biggest one of her three sons) was probably harboring some resentful feelings towards his mother and her lifestlye. She in turn, saw her son as another man in her life trying to control her or attack her; therefore in turn subconsciously materializing the rape or attack on herself and using her current feelings and occupants in the house as the basis for the rape. This would not corroborate with her son testifying that he was too attacked and thrown across a room, but psychic kinetic energy can be powerful enough to affect physical objects from what I’ve studied.
Another theory my fiancee mention could be that Doris Bither could have attracted 3 evil spirits into her life. It could be argued that Doris Bither could have been abused by three influential men in her life (father, uncle, grandfather or someone she trusted). The combination of her self-medicating and having psychic abilities as well as self-loathing could have made her into an attractive victim to malevolent forces. Her turbulent lifestyle and energy as well as her kid’s energy could very well have manifested her feelings into something very evil in a metaphysical level. Post-traumatic Stress Syndrome and psychic abilities can have a great effect one a person. A person that does not know about their abilities and/or is under the influence of a drug can have a great effect on their surrounding environment. Take into consideration the infamous “Bell Witch” haunting.
The Bell Witch Haunting is an old legend. In 1817, John Bell reporting poltergeist phenomenon. The case was made famous by the reports of then General Andrew Jackson (who later became president of the U.S). John Bell’s daughter, Betsy Bell, was at the center of this haunting. She was physically attacked by the ghost(s). There is a theory floating out there that the child was extremely psychic and had suffered from sexual abuse (possibly from her father). Accounts of levitation, spectral noises and disembodied voices were reported. The theory states that all this phenomenon could have been produced by Betsy Bell herself. Living in an unpleasant environment and seeking help, she started to manifest these attacks.
After Doris Bither left her Culver City home, the phenomenon was ceased to exist in the house. Future residents of the house have not reported anything out of the ordinary. The house remains to this day ghost free and is in good conditions.
Dr. Barry Taff reported that Doris Bither moved from Culver City to Carson CA. From Carson to San Bernadino CA, and from San Bernadino to Texas and finally back to San Bernardino. While jumping around the two states, Doris reported that the phenomenon “followed” her and her family to every place they moved to. Feeding the notion that the poltergeist phenomenon was a manifestation of her unstable environment and mind. He also reports that her psychological state is made apparent when she reported being impregnated by the ghost. Medical test showed her to not be pregnant but suffering from an ectopic or hysterical pregnancy.
No one can say for sure what could have been going on with the family in that small Culver City house. Since Doris Bither has not been heard of since the late 80s or 90s (depending on some reports) and her kids have not come forward, we cannot know for certain.
