As with all paranormal activity, there is controversy about the source.
By The GHOSTMAN OF LONDON
Exploring the real world of the paranormal does not come without it's pitfalls. From super paranormal ego's to those that feel others target them directly in their detractions of the research or effort they are putting out.
Many of the early Christian writers, among them Irenaeus, Athanasius, and Jerome, were famed as "controversialists"; they wrote works against perceived heresy or heretical individuals, works whose titles begin "Adversus..." such as Irenaeus' Adversus haereses. The Christian writers inherited from the classical rhetors the conviction that controversial confrontations, even over trivial matters, were a demonstration of intellectual superiority.
The internet split in half when it became apparent that the British government provided funding to a school for mediums. And this started a controversy against them with the paranormal community in an uproar.
“If you want to educate yourself and the science behind it, this is becoming a very popular subject - the public are needing it and wanting it at these uncertain times,” said Mrs. Rees.
I personally sit back and enjoy all the drama queens and the B. S. that many in the field today put forth. From the talk and gossip of what famous ghost hunting person is cheating on his wife with another member of his all male team. Then to who is fake or real. And of course my favorite paranormal drama of all. Who's bigger in the field as far as the investigator or those that investigate them.
But when someone comes forward and tells you of their ghost hauntings do you take their word for it?
Paranormal Controversy is a state of prolonged public dispute or debate usually concerning a matter of opinion. The term controversy originates circa 1384 from Latin controversia, as a composite of controversus - "turned in an opposite direction," from contra - "against" - and vertere - to turn, or versus (see verse), hence, "to turn against."
Benford's law of controversy, as expressed by science-fiction author Gregory Benford in 1980, states: "Passion is inversely proportional to the amount of real (true) information available." In other words, the more untruths the more controversy there is, and the more truths the less controversy there is.
A controversy is usually the result of either ignorance (lack of sufficient true information), misinformation, misunderstandings, half-truths, distortions, bias or prejudice, deliberate lies or fabrications (disinformation), opposed underlying motives or purposes (sometimes masked or hidden), or a combination of these factors.
There is often controversy about a significantly different new paranormal idea, subject, group or person for a period of time, until honest direct examination of sufficient factual evidence results in widespread agreement on the truths of the matter.
The paranormal community is much like an organized Religion today and is considered controversial by many Christians atheists and non-theists around the world.
Neither “reliable sources” nor “multiple reports” are dependable ways to resolve any paranormal controversy, because for centuries, opponents in military and industrial espionage, politics, religion, public relations, and national economies, have used multiple reports and reliable sources of information to manipulate people in war, business, elections, beliefs, public opinion and financial markets – using disinformation or Black propaganda planted secretly or underhandedly, or passed on unwittingly, through double-agents, con men, radio broadcasts, news media, authoritative writings and other means, including gossip and the internet in modern times.
Courts of law have long recognized this fact. Thus, decent and fair courts don’t allow 2nd-hand hearsay evidence (“I heard John say that he heard Mary say so and so”), and require opinion to be clearly labeled as opinion not fact, and instruct juries to base their findings more on hard evidence (like DNA tests and crime scene re-enactments) than on testimony alone, since multiple witnesses can give the same flawed ideas or perceptions, or the same intentional lies and distortions.
Reliance on 2nd-hand and 3rd-hand reports, allegations and opinions from “reliable sources” and “multiple reports” – rather than one’s own 1st-hand examination of physical evidence, original writings, and other fully verified facts – is thus prone to drawing wrong conclusions, continuing controversy, and further spreading misinformation and prejudice, as occurred in Nazi Germany regarding Jews, Gypsies, Catholics and even paranormal investigators and ghost hunters.
If one really wants to know the facts of a matter, it’s necessary to make your own observations of hard facts and physical demonstrations, plus direct and preferably in-person experience and communication with the individual(s) or group(s) in question, and their own original writings and documents, rather than secondary or later reports, opinions, interpretations or offshoots.
Perennial areas of controversy include religion, paranormal investigations of ghosts or cryptid's or UFO's, philosophy and politics of any given situation. Other minor areas of controversy may include economics, science, finances, and race being thrown into the great mix. Controversy in matters of theology has traditionally been particularly heated, giving rise to the phrase odium theologicum. Controversial issues are held as potentially divisive in a given society, because they can lead to tension and ill will. Because of this, some controversies are considered taboo to discuss in public among other people, unless people are either mature enough or can find a common ground to share and discuss its people's feelings, and one's own direct observations and experiences on a controversial issue.
What can be said about Auschwitz and Birkenau that hasn't already been said? What can be photographed at those sacred places that haven't already been photographed?
As I thought about what had occurred there I wondered how any human could do such inhumane things, and then I recalled "The Mysterious Stranger" by Mark Twain. In this story a young
boy named Seppi is talking to Satan about a man who had brutally beaten his dog. Seppi declared that this man's actions were inhumane and Satan responded:
"No, it wasn't Seppi; it was human - quite distinctly human."
Satan goes on to point out that no other animal on the planet would treat another this way, except humans.
I had not intended to photograph during my tour of the camps but after being there a few minutes, I felt compelled. With every step I wondered about the people whose feet had walked in exactly the same footsteps. I wondered if their spirits still lingered there today.
And so I photographed ghosts.
I often hear many accusations concerning others. From he could not find a real ghost if it bites him on the ass. And as extreme as personal insults to downright swearing someone has faked documents and they know it as a fact.
I am often amused when someone gets their feelings hurt because someone calls them a name or does not like the article or the sentiment when someone reviews a person paranormal documentation, web site or review. People tend to get childish in their online bickering and sentiments of I am taking you off my site I will not promote you are your organization.
What we need to realize here is who are we supposed to really believe? The victim or the attacker. And what side of who's story is true. But in reality it does not mean anything. the good the bad of it all. It actually puts you into the direct spotlight or hot seat. But are you really ready for the scrutiny. Do you act like a big kid and say I want not part of this. And bash them on chat boards and through mass emails. I guess we have allot of real smart and mature individuals that don't realize the more you condemn someone else you also condemn yourself to not be taken a a trustworthy source.
But Paranormal Drama and controversy does bring up the point of observation and investigation. I really believe it is the acid test to the actual answer to the fact that particular paranormal idea or documentation's validity.
It makes you wonder, should you have written that email explaining how a said person went out of there way to fake the most haunted place in the world. By this to just to get attention and make allot of cash. Or how that woman who talks about ghosts on her radio show could careless about the facts, she only wants to have sex with her guest when she meets them eye to eye. Really now who cares it's rumored and nothing true or not can change that when you put something bad out there it will come back to bite you.
But who pays attention to such dribble. Who writes to web sites and basically tells them I hated the review you did so I don't want to be on your site anymore. I guess it's the little people who can't take the heat and paranormal life in stride and move ahead and learn from what the universe has put in their path.
"I guess I do and so do all the people in chats that keep the rumors and gossip going. These individuals or of course in my personal observation are really paranormal obsessed.
Just like those that openly debunk photos of reported ghosts. Remember it is in a persona personal beliefs and if they don't see what you see or know what you know why impose your beliefs on them.
Paranormal Stalkers
Once you have truly made an enemy a fan or gained any type of self felt fame or adoration in the field of paranormal research investigation or any tangent like a paranormal talk show you become a target. People not everywhere will like you. Some will hate you now matter how honest real and sincere you are.
Being in the paranormal spotlight brings all your skeletons out of the closet. It also brings out character traits , flaws fears and insecurities in individuals that show how emotionally immature they are. But the dark side of this is there might just be someone that can do you a awful lot of harm as well.
Those of us that hunt for ghosts whether it is on a television show or in our many books and web sites should realize that all you have to do is show your face or put out an opinion and somebody is out to get you.
Why do so many people become targets you might ask but the answer is simple. They were were targets before they started their paranormal openness and brought down all the rants on them selves. You need to be tough skinned when your a high profile paranormal investigator or did you people not know that. The same goes if your a radio show personality or anyone outside the world we know as our paranormal community.
Yes "Paranormal Haters" hate! So roll with the punches and use anything anyone says of you as a sign that you have arrived at paranormal celebrity status. But beware the higher you get on the ladder of paranormal success the larger the haunted paranormal target on your back gets!
Please remember any paranormal publicity is good normal publicity as long as they spell your name right!
