Songs written to
the ghosts that haunt us... Or Just the Songs that
really Haunt us?
Story by M. T. Terwilliger
How
about that song that just stays in your head and you
can't get rid of it. Haunting isn't it? A song is
a relatively short musical composition for the human
voice (commonly accompanied by other musical instruments),
which generally (exceptions would be scat songs) features
words (lyrics).
Many songs are written
for many reasons some about all the things in the
world. But many or about the real ghost and the things
that haunt us. Often songs are written about lost
love and friendships. And some songs take on a haunted
or haunting story as time goes on. The Ghost Song,
The Doors - Greatest
Hits [Elektra],
and was released on An American Prayer in 1978, 7
years after Jim Morrison's death in Paris, France.
The song is Morrison's poetry recording with the rest
of the band's music. Part of the song "indians
scattered on dawns highway bleeding" refers to
a childhood experience, where him and his family where
driving down a desert highway and they pass 3 truckloads
of indian workers. He says that, during that experience,
the souls of the dead indian workers just leapt into
his soul and stayed there until his death.
The
Doors-The Ghost Song
Even the ever great
song dedicated to ghost hunters every where Ghost
Busters, is a great ghost song. Many songs written
about ghosts or album titles carry the theme Bernie
Taupin's "Show Us Your Ghosts", or Crash
Test Dummies, "The Ghosts That Haunt Me".
Or What's It Feel Like To Be
A Ghost?) by Taking Back Sunday. And who could
over look Ghost Riders in the Sky, and the Late great
Ruby Starr of Grey Ghost.
Some songs just seem
to attach themselves to people living and dead. It
could be just a favorite song they liked in life or
something dedicated to them in memoriam. Some believe
the recordings by long dead artists Singers and Song
Writers like, Jim Morrison, Bobby Darren, Janis Joplin,
Richie Vallens, John Lennon, The Big Bopper, Jimi
Hendrix and those like Mama Cass Elliot and Tommy
Boyce not only keep their spirits attached to us by
their songs, but it's part of what they loved so much
in life that they cling to their music even in death.
Other believe their
still making music in the after world playing their
songs. Can you imagine the afterlife with the greatest
singers and musical legends playing to the throngs
of fans. Whether their playing their worst song or
saving the best for last it would be a show not to
miss.
I often wonder what
a show in the other world must be like... Standing
in the clouds. Tommy Boyce's music still often haunts
me no matter where I go, a Monkee's song, the theme
to days of our lives. I wonder what he's doing tonight?

Does
a song touch you so deep it haunts you?
Have you ever been
haunted by the words of a song? So much you play it
over and over again just to get it's meaning. Or because
it does you something inside with your emotions. It
Means something stronger to you then what the song
writer meant to capture in the first place. Or is
it it they are on the same page with you in their
standings and beliefs.
Laredo, Play It Loud
by Chris Cage is an example of a song taking on a
life and haunting those that hear it and it's story.
“There’s a very touching story Cagle tells
on his enhanced CD example of a strong bond between
a child and his teddy bear,” Paranormal investigator
Gina Lanier says sadly. “The child’s family
was convinced that the boy was receiving much of his
strength and his will to live from his companion teddy
bear. Not only this, he also found strength in the
words and messages he heard in Cagle’s music.
In the end, he wanted Cagle to have that bear, and
that’s how it went.”
After completing his
task as bedside companion to a dying boy, Laredo the
Teddy Bear now lives with Chris Cagle, his presence
a constant reminder of the value of life and the bond
between a boy and his companion. The telling of the
story by Chris Cagle on his enhanced cd video shows
the emotion it brought up in him while telling the
story it is very powerful to watch and heart touching
to experience.
It's funny how Cagle's
song haunts me, it gives me a feeling I just can't
explain since I heard the story told by him personally.
A police officer and have seen some strange calls
but the one day he had his first ghost call. John
Trussell of Richardson,TX was dispatch to a call
where a lady had heard music coming from a room
which music should not have been coming from. When
i arrived i contacted the lady who was in her 70"s
but was quite together. She said that she could
hear music coming from her deceased husband"s
workshop which was located in a room within the
garage. She further advised her husband had past
away almost 3 years ago this week. She gave me the
keys to the room which only she has and no one else
lives with her. I could hear music coming from the
room which was locked. I opened the door and saw
a two way intercom box on a desk.
From the intercom box Big Band era music was blaring.
The odd thing was the intercom was not equipped
to play music or receive music. I asked her where
the other intercom was and she said it had been
put away after her husband died.
Apparently her husband use to listen to Big band
music while working in the workshop. The area where
the intercom was sitting was covered with dust and
cobwebs and there was no indications that anyone
had been in the room for sometime. She was a little
shaken by the whole event and we never did figure
how the system had been turned on. I unplugged it
for her and told her that if continued to play music
then she would need to seek a more divine service!
Many remember the appearance of Actor
David Selby as Quentin Collins Ghost featured in
the 1967-1971 ABC soap opera television series Dark
Shadows. In December of 1968, Quentin originally
appeared as an angry malevolent spirit haunting
the playroom in the West Wing of Collinwood (along
with the ghost of his lover Beth Chavez). Each time
he appeared his haunting music Quentin's
Theme played.
QUENTIN'S
THEME
Charles Randolph Grean
Shadows of the night...
Falling silently
Echo of the past...
Calling you to me
Haunting memory...
Veiled in misty glow
Phantom melody...
Playing soft and low
In this world that we know
now
Life is here, then gone
But somewhere in the afterglow
Love lives on and on
Dreams of long ago...
Meet in rendezvous
Shadows of the night...
Calling me to you
Calling me to you
The Dan Curtis Dark Shadows Series used many
musical interludes and specific music to introduce
it's ghost, vampires and werewolves with notables
such as Josette's music box theme and the children's
haunted playroom to name a few.
Real Life Ghosts Stories And Music
A Real Haunted Ghost
Song "Tommy
Boy" (Listen
here) by Singer,
Song writer Dave Heushkel. Many say no matter what
part of the world they live in whenever they here
this song they call or feel the presence of Tommy's
spirit with them listening to the song. Heushkel emotional
original song was written about a friend who had passed
3/10/04, as a tribute to him and his deep love and
friendship.
Many who have heard
the song in his my space page say they get a feeling
that Tommy just comes to them to impart the wisdom
of the music for all to know. When the song first
appeared on a My Space many if the curious listeners
started telling of their many encounters with what

Tommy Boy Recorded
by Dave Heushkel 2005
I'm livin with the memories of my younger brother
Tom
Some days are worse than others, and they seem to
drag along
My new found faith in heartache paints a picture true
and sad
as I look in the eyes of Tommy's Mom and Dad.
And the worst of times they just don't seem so bad
I remember many times, a whole lot, more than a few.
The gift of girls and alcohol would help us make it
through
we left each other smiling and we loved each other
bad
and I think of the eyes of Tommy's Mom and Dad
And the worst of times they just don't seem so bad
But if you please, the apologies
They seem so empty and alone
they'll never bring my brother home
and I have sworn, to always mourn
The passing of my younger brother Tom
and the days, they seem, to always drag along
I'm living with the heartbreak of 100,000 men
but happiness it finds me every now and then again
so I sit and write my feelings in the messages of
song
And this one's for my beautiful brother Tom
and the days without you seem to drag along
But if you please, the apologies
They seem so empty and alone
they'll never bring my brother home
and I have sworn, to always mourn
The passing of my younger brother Tom
and the days, they seem, to always drag along
and I confess that I won't rest
until you meet me at the pearly gates
and if you make me, I'll stand there and wait
cause I know your comin at the end of life's long
haul
Now Tommy boy don't forget the girls and the alcohol.
When I first heard
the song myself last year a friend had sent me the
My page link. The song is very haunting and one of
those that makes you feel good inside. I actually
felt as if a hand was holding mine and if someone
hugged me from the other side. I admit it I cried
the first time I heard the song it really touched
me. I also know that Tommy had set up a my space page
the day before he died and a link is on it from his
site.
Birthday
Ghost
Here's
the Jason Hunter Core song he wrote to a ghost that
forever haunts him on her birthday. The song tells
of her 30th birthday, the actual day she passed into
the other world, and what he does to celebrate it
each year. Core's song has been said by many to attract
the ghost it is written about to them also where ever
they live... Core wrote the song to her and she started
haunting him to this day.
Colleen the ever beautiful
blond ghost girl in the song is said by some to make
her presence felt when ever or where ever it is played.
Especially on her birthday July 3rd and if you don't
have a present for her they say look out because she
will haunt you until you to get her one.

This is the story
of a Ghost song I wrote about an experience I had
with the real ghost of a woman actress from the 1800's.
I was staying at a friends place in Longmont, Colorado
last April 2006. The building that he owns used to
be called 'The Times Call' building years ago.
Baghdad
Holiday by Stendec (Listen
Here) is a song that might just contain
a few actual EVPs' in the background that just happened
during the recording of the song. At least that's
what their lead Singer "J" and fellow band
mates believe. If you put on your head phones and
turn up the volume you can here her crying at one
point and another time saying quite clearly "
I'm Jackie!" you can actually hear a few ghostly
voices he says other then hers too." Many say
they here it as plain as your hear the music others
just don't, " says " J". I guess some
Evp's are not meant for everyone to experience."
He states to those that just don't hear it.
A Brand new aged band
called" I like Purple Mascara" says that
they actually put real EVP's that they capture on
many of their ghost hunting show road trips as part
of their actual songs.
Lead singer Carter
Fortune, says she uses a digital recorder as they
play different venues. " Some Music halls and
Clubs are haunted as you know she states quite directly.
I also ghost hunt cemeteries on my off times and get
plenty of ghost and EVP's to put into our Music.
"I actually have
a ghost singing and have used the tape during our
live shows." Says Fortune. "Many people
love it, they say our show is really haunting. "And
of Course it is!"
The
Song Remains The Same But Do We?
Often when riding in
a car or listening to the radio a song comes on that
reminds you of someone lost yo us but not forgotten.
You might tear up or just change the station to get
away from the feelings it brings and latch on to you.
Some say when the hear a song that was very much loved
by a person when alive they feel as if they are their
with you. No matter what's the style Rock N' Roll,
classical, Gospel, Country, or rap what ever the flavor
you know it when it happens to you.
Could music be just
another way the dead communicate to us from the world
beyond?
It's all the same
music that speaks to us from times gone by to even
dare I say from those that love us on the other side.
Could it be their trying to tell us something special
or that their just playing our song.
Ghost Riders in the
sky - Blues Brothers
Music makes us remember
things. Hear a song once they say and you'll never
forget it. Emotions dwell in every song, happiness
and sorrow hand in hand. Memories sweet and loving
and those dark shadows to hide within it's melody,
and those remembrance we don't want to touch and run
away from.
Johnny Cash - The
Long Black Veil 1987
Nothing escapes our
inner feelings if it touches us so dear. Just as someone
we loved has passed on .... We only have one truth
they say music lives forever.
