According to
Websters dictionary the word "haunting"
is defined as: 1 a: to visit often, or to
continually seek the company of 2 a: to have
a disquieting or harmful effect on, or to
linger.
From this definition
we can see what a ghost 'does' but it does
not help tell us what it is.
We can therefore determine that a "haunting"
is simply repeated unwanted visits that disturb
or harm. Visits from who or what though???
Following
a death in the family, it is said that covering
all of the mirrors in a household will prevent
the newly deceased from using any of these
mirrors as a portal from the afterlife into
the living world.
Many B&B's,
hotels, cemeteries and prisons and assorted
public places are said to be haunted. Ghosts
tend to hide in places that once were theirs
and they consider these places to have painful
memories. Battlefields and public buildings
are said to be sites of many very active paranormal
experiences.
Protection
Against Ghosts:
It is sad Chalcedony and Obsidian worn on
the person will protect against ghosts. Cetain
metals such as silver are also protective.
Also salt carried in your pocket will keep
ghosts at bay. Placing an iron rod on a grave
will prevent ghosts from rising out of the
ground. Placing an iron horseshoe at the entrance
to a building will stop ghosts from entering.
Iron nails taken from a tomb and nailed into
a doorway will prevent nightmares. When a
person dies in a home all doors, windows and
cupboards should be unlocked so as to allow
the ghosts free passage out of the house and
avoid any future hauntings. Corpses should
always be carried out feet first so the ghost
of the corpse will not return. During the
funeral all furniture in the house must be
rearanged so that if the ghost returns it
will not recognize the place and leave. Also
one must not speak bad of the dead or the
ghosts may come and haunt them.
A
simple protection approach towards
keeping real ghosts at bay is to light
candles at your residence and keep
them burning. Holy or blessed candles
are said to be the best! Voodoo Hoodoo
Candles from New Orleans are said
to be made specifcally to ward off
ghost and evil, locals swear by their
power to send ghost packing.
MANY SAY IT IS BETTER TO LIGHT ONE
LITTLE CANDLE THEN CURSE AT THE GHOSTS
IN THE DARKNESS!
Some people are just afraid of apparitions
and spirits that they need to find comfort
in ghost protection, which could come in the
form of actions or additional physical accompaniments.
There are many different kinds of ghost protection
to consider and depending on the level of
protection you need.
One famous
paranormal ghost hunter is said to secretly
carry a concecrated host as a protection amulet
with him at all times," you never know
what you will come in contact with during
your adventures" he confides to a handfull,
" you might want to have ghost protection
in your possession at times he warns."
Superstion or not you can't be too carefull.
Some people attempting to play games with
ghosts or spirits of dead people later find
themselves obsessed or disturbed in ways that
psychotherapy does not recognize and cannot
heal. Magical stories are full of warnings
about entities that expect to be paid for
their services.

It appears
as though ghosts just want to tell their own
story. According to a Gallup poll, 38% believe
in haunted house, sGhost hunters tend to visit
places that are haunted because they know
that they may be able to catch a glimpse of
a ghost on film or audio. The ghost hunter
is well aware of the fact that a ghost is
making movement because they are upset about
something or they just want to make their
presence known.
Gallup poll
is an opinion poll conducted by The Gallup
Organization and frequently used by the mass
media for representing public opinion. The
Gallup poll is named after its inventor, the
American statistician George Gallup. Until
the mid 1980s the Gallup poll conducted its
polls using door-to-door sampling methods.
Now, however, nearly all samples are chosen
using the process of random digit dialing.
The Gallup
poll has existed since the 1930s. Historically,
The Gallup Organization has measured and tracked
the public's attitudes concerning virtually
every political, social, and economic issue
of the day, including highly sensitive or
controversial subjects. Although Gallup has
typically conducted its polling activities
in collaboration with various media organizations
and, on occasion, with worldwide associations
and academic institutions, these polls are
reputed to have been carried out independently
and objectively.
Gallup polls are usually accurate
in predicting the correct outcome of the Presidential
election. A notable exception is the 1948
Dewey-Truman election, where nearly all pollsters
predicted a Dewey victory. The Gallup poll
also predicted a slim victory by Ford in 1976.
Gallup was technically correct in the 2000
poll, although George W. Bush did not receive
the majority vote.
Do The Dead
See Us As Ghost?
Some cases involve otherwise normal
people hearing strange noises or having
visions of dead people or of objects moving
with no visible means of locomotion. Hearing
strange noises in the night and letting
the imagination run wild are quite natural
human traits and not very indicative of
diabolical or paranormal activity. Likewise,
visions and hallucinations are quite natural,
even if unusual and infrequent, in people
with normal as well as with very active
imaginations (Sagan 1995).
Sagan, Carl. The Demon-Haunted World -
Science as a Candle in the Dark, ch. 6 "Hallucinations,"
(New York: Random House, 1995).
This book challenges
the reader to critically scrutinize information
professed by supposed experts, and be more
of a skeptic. Sagan states early on in the
book that "some 95 percent of Americans
are scientifically illiterate." By using
the scientific method combined with a little
bit of logic and common sense, one should
find that it is much more difficult to be
mentally taken advantage of by pseudoscience
"experts." Intelligent inquiry and
analysis of information presented, and those
presenting it, proves to be an invaluable
tool.

The term "spirit"
is defined as: 1a: a supernatural being. Although
I beleive that there is nothing "SUPER"
natural about spirits. They are simply natural
occurances that surround us every day, everywhere.
For the great majority of us we function completly
oblivious to thier existance, this creates
for us a "comfort zone" about ghosts.
This comfort zone is disturbed or completely
undone when we are unexpectedly required to
meet and deal with these spirit forms.
Nothing on
earth will convert a skeptic quicker than
having a ghostly encounter. Everyone was born
with the capacity to respond to supernatural
forces, or so it is believed. People who seem
to attract these spirits or ghosts are often
themselves entangled with a dead person, for
example with a suicide ancestor or an aborted
sibling. I find that almost anybody can contact
or communicate with dead spirits, but some
people (by virtue of their entanglement) provide
a ready made conduit. These people may dislike
this and avoid spooky places, or they may
enjoy and exploit it.
All religious
philosophies aside, the "essence"
that makes us human is the "energy"
that some call a soul. One of the basic concepts
in science is that "energy" cannot
be destroyed, it only changes form. With that
fact in mind we will explore the realm of
spirits.
I would like
to say here that I cannot present to you all
that my studies and experiences have taugh
at me, only that I will try to cover the highlights
and most frequently asked questions. Also,
I do not have all the answers, but am willing
to work with you as an individual to find
whatever information that will help. Further,
I will not enter into a religious debates
or philosphical discussions. It has been my
experience that ones religous foundation will
color attitudes and beliefs until the day
you die, rather I will stick to practical,
helpful activities that will guide you through
your encounters.

PARANORMAL & STRANGE STORIES FROM

Hauntings occur for one reason, that the essence/spirit
of a human is bound to this plane.
What causes
a spirit to remain earth bound?
This question
is a rather complex one, and the answer varies
according to the spirits personality in life.
Some reasons that are commonly accepted are:
Unfinished
Business, the spirit feels that he/she has
something important to accomoplish before
moving on.
Attachement to another person, the spirit
is unwilling to leave this plane of existance
because of his/her love for another.
Material Attachment,
the spirit is unwilling to leave earthly possessions.
Protector,
the spirit feels it is necessary to remain
as a guardian over another.
Confusion,
the spirit may have had an unexpected traumatic
death and is unaware that he/she is now on
the other side.

Common Signs
of a Haunting
Most typically people report "hearing"
things that go 'bump' in the night. The most
commonly heard sound is that of someone walking,
frequently associated with this sound is hearing
a door that opens or closes. Upon investigation
there is noone on the premises.
Although less
typical, reports of 'seeing' a spirit or being
'touched' are the next most often reported
incidents. Smell is often associated with
spirit activity. I hesitate to list smells
and thier associations for fear of influencing
anyones perceptions of a situation. However
if you are associating smells with spirit
events don't be frightened, this is pretty
common too.
Here is a short list of some common events
that happen in a haunted house:
Seeing shadows move around
Hearing footsteps
in a vacant room
Missing keys
or other small objects
Lights, televisions,
radios etc. being turned on when off, or vice-versa
Household animals
staring intensely at nothing or acting unusual
Doors and windows
being locked or unlocked, shut or opened
Being touched
when no one is present
Often active
hauntings have distinctive smells associated
with them
Areas within
the building that have notably colder spots
Little is known about why
or how hauntings occur. Thousands of hauntings
have been systematically investigated by researchers
and parapsychologists since the late 19th century.
Many explanations have been proposed, but there
is no conclusive evidence to support one more
strongly than another. Federic W. H. Myers,
one of the founders of the Society For Psychical
Research (SPR), London, who did extensive research
of apparitions in the late 19th century, believed
that most hauntings are fragmentary and meaningless,
the bits and pieces of an energy residue left
by the living after their death. Others who
have built on Myers' theory propose that hauntings
do not involve ghostly personalities, but are
those recordings of energy that take on personalities
to percipients who are psychically sensitive.
Psychic sensitivity may account for diverse
experiences phenomena and another does not.
Elenor Sidgwick, former secretary of the SPR,
theorized that hauntings are a form of psychometry.
Just as an object appears to absorb and retain
the 'vibrations' of it's owner, which manifest
as impressions when the object is handled by
a medium or psychic, then houses might also
retain memories or psychic impressions. A house
could incorporate the thoughts, actions and
feelings of it's former occupants, which then
manifest as a haunting to psychically sensitive.

How can you say ghost exist unless you try to
experience it yourself? If you are not willing
to try, then you have no factual basis for your
conclusion. To put this another way, don't decide
it before you try it. All beliefs come from
a experience. Many believe people for their
word, others not so trusting simply need to
be shown. And still more do not believe what
they see even if it shoved in their face.
"James Randi's "$1 million challenge"
Most people have heard of the challenge by former
stage magician James Randi, offering $1 million
to anyone who can demonstrate psychic powers.
Randi's $1M challenge was unveiled on 1st April
1996. You can read its terms in full at the
web site of the James Randi Educational Foundation
(JREF) the organization administering the challenge.
Some say who have met Randi Personally that
it is not that he does not believe in the paranormal
it is just his search for proof of what should
be a common reality, that it needs hard scientific
undeniable facts.
Channeling is conducted through a higher state
of consciousness. People who channel claim to
be communicating with angels, spirits, deities
and demons.
The person claiming to do the channeling allows
the entity to take over control of the body
and use the vocal chords. Some channelers receive
information via visions. Channeling focuses
on passing on information such as teachings.
Channeling become well known around the 1970's
with the publication of books by Jane Roberts.
Sad to say most people who think they are channeling
are probably only drawing on their own subconscious.
However there are a few gifted people in this
field who are genuine channelers.
Channellers claim to have channelled ascended
masters like Buddha, Jesus, or St. Germain.;
people that have died; angels; higher dimensional
beings; and extra-terrestrials of a spiritual
or more evolved nature. Channelling is a popular
source of revealed teachings in some New Age
groups. Well known channellers like Diandra
(Salem), Esther Hicks (Abraham), Jane Roberts
(Seth), and Lee Carroll (Kryon) have volumes
of teachings on angels, chakras, higher dimensions,
future predictions, manifestation, meditation,
non-judgment, now moment, past lives, and spirituality.
The channels, depending upon their expertise,
tap many tools to ‘channelize’ their
psychic energy. They may use tarot cards, crystal
balls, gems or dream analysis. They use their
psychic abilities of clairvoyance, clairaudience,
and clairsentience.
One type of channeling is 'Conscious voice
channelling,' in which the channeller calms
his or her mind and 'connects to the energy'
of the source being channeled. The source uses
the vocabulary of the channeller. Channellers
in this state usually have their eyes closed
and are conscious of the room and what is being
said. They then, allegedly, allow the source
to speak through them by staying in this calm
state.
A less common form of channeling, 'Trance channelling,'
occurs through deeper meditation in which the
channeller appears t
