GHOSTS ABOUND IN RANCHO CORDOVA

As our book BE A GHOST BUSTER WITH GOLD RUSH GHOSTS (From the television show Investigating the unknown with Gold Rush Ghosts) went to print, many people approached Gold Rush Ghosts Paranormal Investigations as to why we rarely to never do home investigations. The reasons are clear. Most everyone wants there to be a ghost in their home, apartment, or other place of residence. Many paranormal groups will go out on any excuse to hunt for the unknown, and some have even been known to ‘produce’ faulty evidence to make it appear that things are what they are not. So for us, an organization dedicated to truth in paranormal work, we have for the most part left home investigations to the novice unless there is clear evidence of possible activity, and it can be backed up with something substantial enough for us to give it a look.
And it was just such a possible investigation that took us to Rancho Cordova, a town just outside of Sacramento , California in August of 2009. We had been contacted by the owner of the home who told us of so many strange things that were going on. She wanted to put the house on the market and wanted to be certain that there was nothing there that would stop the sale. Something like ghosts in fact. After the strange goings on in her home, she was concerned with disclosure, as a previous owner died in the house. From her own words,” The house was built in the early 60s, and we bought it about nine years ago from the original owners. The owner died in the home and his wife a few years later in a nursing home. He was a medical practitioner, an animal lover, and was instrumental in starting one of the first clinics in our city.” Being a man of seemingly powerful position in the community and having the prestige that comes with that, she wondered if he had strong energy that remained in the home after his death. We allowed her to continue her story.
“I almost always see black shadows and some kind of movement in my dining room area. It appears as if there are several people coming and going at all hours but mostly at night. Lately it has been happening more often.” I tried to explain to her that as she is fixing up the home for sale, there would obviously be more activity from the other side. Spirits do not like change, and so it is common for there to be an increase in paranormal behavior at this time. She was anxious to continue. “Lately they seem more active. We have seen what we think is orbs in there, and I also see them at our bar.” The bar was purchased with the house, leading her to assume the energy may be from the previous owner who loved to hold ‘block parties’. It was not uncommon for a complete neighborhood to rally at this house because the energy was strong for happiness and fun.
I asked her to continue with her story. “Out in my back yard” she told me, “I saw a rather large image of a man by my pool pump and when I moved closer he just disappeared. I also was putting some old lemons in our green waste bin and the lid came all the way up and closed by itself. Then my right shoulder and back of my arm got very cold as I stood there. I did ask if they were the ones that closed the lid but there was no answer, and this all happened in the same area where I saw the man’s image.
“I have heard voices behind me in nearly every area of the house” she continued, “different tones and types, a lot more lately than usual. I picked up my cell phone a couple of weeks ago on a very hot summer day, and it was strangely cold on one side. Then my hand became very cold as well.” And then she told us something that would make us want to help her. “I have been feeling this overwhelming sense of dizziness too, mostly in the backyard and dining room area. I have felt like someone’s hand was on my shoulder, or holding my hand, playing with my hair, again quite a bit lately. Things have come up missing or moved too, small things, like stamps or mail.”
I had to give this more thought, and so I asked her “Have anyone else had experiences at your home?”
“Oh yes” she told us. “For one thing my son and daughter-in-law have had experiences. They no longer live with me so I don’t know if you would be interested in their stories about the house, but my daughter--in-law has told me that she does not like to come into the house alone any longer.”
Interesting.
“ My sister-in-law has had experiences too” She told us.
Hum!
“Also, I remember the very first time I walked into the house (again nearly nine years ago), and there was a large shadow of a man standing in the doorway as I walked in as if he was there to greet me, but then he quickly was gone towards the dining room or bar.” Obviously a spirit or ghost. “Actually, that was what sold me on the house” she told us.
Okay, we decided to take a chance and do the investigation.
Volunteering for this investigation would be seasoned investigators with GOLD RUSH GHOSTS INTERNATIONAL, headed by Elizabeth Harrison, Danielle Carpenter, Judy Cooper, Bob King, Robert Reppert and myself. I would come along for the psychic approach, the others for clinical evaluation. We approached the home at about 6:00 pm, on a warm Saturday night. As the crew was getting the equipment out of our van, I took a moment to talk to the owner of the home and her sister-in-law who she had asked to participate in the investigation. The husband of the owner was just down the street if we needed him, watching a ball game on television if I remember correctly. And their dogs had been taken to a friends home so they would not interfere. An animal lover, I would have loved to have them underfoot, especially when I learned one of them was a Bernese Mountain Dog, a favorite of mine. Animals also bring in lot of spirit activity, so that would have been another plus.
Looking around I quickly was able to determine that the elderly man that passed away likely had done so in the master bedroom. There was death energy. King placed cameras there, also in the utility room right next to it to see if the energy changed from one room to the other. He placed more cameras the dining area, and the bar. We had previously decided that the sitting room to the left of the front door would be the command center and all equipment was brought to that area and we set up our equipment to be able to watch what was going on in the house from their television screen.
Carpenter and Cooper immediately went to the master bedroom with Temp and EMF meters to see if they could get readings, but unfortunately they came out disappointed as they were not significantly high. “It’s mostly ghostly imprint” I deducted, because you will get higher readings with spirits even though the entities move about. Harrison moved on to the dining area to conduct an interview with the owner and the crew walked around with meters in hand looking for any type of activity. Cooper was able to pick up some meter readings in the back yard where the owner had told us she had seen a form, but it produced nothing exciting.
And then it happened.
As we were reviewing the activity from the cameras from the command post television, I heard commotion. Clearly it was a flurry of activity in the master bedroom, which just goes to show that some spirits that had been moving about had come back into this room. It was going to be a night of ‘catch as catch can!’
A good amount of time passed without any activity on the screen or meter readings in the rooms, and Harrison concluded the interviews to be used on our television show. I could feel the energy take itself to the bar area, and so I asked our investigators to sit with me at the bar. Little happened. And so I asked the sister-in-law to take my place there as I felt I would help King and Reppert get the equipment back into their cases. We were going to wrap up for the night. It was then the sister-in-law that had been invited to attend the investigation felt something behind her at the bar. We all headed for the command center and rewound the tape. We could all easily see a large orb go from across the room directly toward her, and land on her. It was clear to me it was her deceased Father. I told her “Your father wants to talk to you.” At that point I gave her the message from her father.
In her own words concerning the investigation and her previous experiences in the house she told us, “When my brother and his wife bought the house I spent some time helping with painting. Sometimes I was alone in the house, but I never felt alone, and a few times I would turn my head because I thought I heard someone walking down the hall. Of course I thought to myself, ‘how can that be…the hall is carpeted?!’
“On this summer Saturday, I got a call from by brother’s wife asking me what I would be doing from 6-10 pm, GOLD RUSH GHOSTS was coming. To my surprise and delight she invited me to be present when the paranormal crew arrived to do some investigating at her home. ‘Seriously, I will be there’ I told her. ‘Who cares about clean clothes for work tomorrow!’ “To my amazement when the crew arrived it was way larger than I had expected and completely professional. Wires, cameras and other devices I cannot pronounce were set up throughout the house. This was to be a real, live investigation. This was way more than I expected and I was a little taken back. Nancy and the crew were a wonderful delight. Though I could feel the energy around me, I tried my best to stay out of the way. I got to walk around with a EMF meter gadget. At one point I began to feel nauseous and a bit out of it. I sat in wonder with Nancy on the sofa and watched the orbs flying around the different rooms of the house on the television they had the cameras connected to. I stayed quiet though questions were burning inside me. I was breathless. The one experience that will always stand out is the warm sensation that penetrated the back of my neck when sitting at the bar stool with the other ladies. When I returned and Nancy played the tape back you could clearly see an orb come from the glass door that leads to the outside of the house fly through the air. It seemed to get lost in the exact spot where I had the warm sensation on the back of my neck. Immediately without knowing ANYTHING about me except my name Nancy said “That is a masculine figure honey, your dad is passed.” All I could say was ‘yes’, and thank you. I’m such a dork!
I am fortunate to have had this experience and eager to see what further information comes of it with GOLD RUSH GHOSTS. Thank you to Nancy and her crew. You guys couldn’t have been more professional and patient. My love to all of you.”
It proved to be an interesting investigation. We are always a team that looks for MORE and we were somewhat disappointed that the activity did not continue in the three hours we were there. But the activity that we did encounter was extensive and very productive. From our tapes, equipment, and knowledge, it is clear the previous owner of the home and the man who died there is still visible, although it is not his death that we see, but a ghostly imprint from the many years that he lived there. The man in the bar clearly was the father of the sister-in-law, and he had messages for her. The area where they originally felt the most activity, the dining area, was unfortunately still for us this night. As we all know, spirits move around as we do, and Cooper experienced activity in the backyard, but by the time we could get set up there, it had dissipated.
All and all, this was an interesting evening at a private home with stories to tell. YES, THIS home investigation in Rancho Cordova was productive as you can see by the photos. We may reconsider doing other home investigations if the owners can produce for us some form of actual activity prior that could be associated. For every one home investigation that we are called on, it is a ratio of 1 to 8 that proves to be actually haunted, every other has a logical explanation. This one was haunted.
