Pazuzu was an Assyrian and Babylonian demonic god of the first millennium BC. He normally has a dog-like face like here, and where his body is depicted he has a scaly torso, a snake-headed penis, the talons of a bird and usually wings. He is often regarded as an evil underworld demon, but he seems also to have played a beneficent role as a protector against disease-bearing winds (especially the west wind). He was closely associated with the demoness Lamashtu who stole babies from their mother's womb or when newly born. Pazuzu acted to counter her evil: he forced her back to the underworld. Amulets of Pazuzu like this were therefore placed in windows hung inside and out of dwellings, attached to bedroom furniture. Smaller versions were hung around the necks of pregnant women. Real Case Study Of Demonic Forces And Paranormal Activity
by Chase Mason
The Devil and demonic forces have as many believe have caused individuals to do many strange things over the centuries.
No one really knows why a evil ghost, demon or the devil picks out a certain select person to possess.
The incarnation of the demons has been a problem to Christian demonology and theology since early times. A very early form of incarnation of demons was the idea of demonic possession, trying to explain that a demon entered the body of a person with some purpose or simply to punish that one for some allegedly committed sin. But this soon acquired greater proportions, trying to explain how demons could seduce people to have sexual relationships with them or induce them to commit other sins.
To Christian scholars, demons didn't always have to manifest themselves in a visible and possible tangible form. Sometimes it was through possession.
We might think directly with certainty that it is to solely effect the people directly involved with the person infested. But today in the world of paranormal study a current school of thought is that such things are not random and the tales of such demons infesting individuals might just be because it is to effect those that study it and prepare them for the fight over pure evil that is in their own future.
And as that old adage goes: "The Devil made me do it!"
Many so called self proclaimed exorcist and practicing demonologist today are not fully prepared for the task of a true exorcism. They intensely study videos and read anything they can to inform them of what they might expect beyond projectile vomiting, great feats of strength and witnessing actual levitation or other extreme paranormal manifestations.
Real demons as we know also psychically and mentally attack all those that they come in contact with. By their supernatural powers over all those involved they can and do distort peoples perceptions.
A strange case of Demons or ghosts possibly attacking and possessing a person occurred near Palestine,Texas.
The family watched in horror as the old grand father who lived with them begin to show what they truly believed to be signs of actually full blown demonic or ghost possession.
The man of 75 would speak in strange tongues and even talk backwards. He would howl like a dog way long into the night, and as what they described as terrifying feats of strength and knowledge that was completely out of his character and his level of knowledge.
The family often told others how they found him wandering off during the day and in the night. then only to be found naked at a nearby cemetery defecating on a reverends freshly dug grave. They also noted that he told them he was the devil and would see them soon burning and tortured and eye to eye in hell.
This was not one of those headline grabbing cases that made the news, nor one where the paranormal community was made aware of directly. In the winter months of 2009 a evil dark unseen force wrecked havoc on this Texas family and drove what many believe to the point that the devil and demonic possession is real.
In the late months of October the family related to me that they tried in vain to contact many paranormal investigators in the community through emails that they tried to contact Jason and Grant from the well known group of ghost hunters known as TAPS but never heard a reply. Whether this is actually truth or not, even my personal calls and emails to research this case to them produced no answers either.
The reason for the family seeking out what they believed was professional help. It was solely because they believed their home and lives were being invaded by ghosts and unseen forces. And they believed whole heartedly that only a prominent high profile group like TAPS could help them.
After several unreturned emails and phone calls they decided to seek help elsewhere. They contacted several ghost hunting groups in Texas and nearby Louisiana and Mississippi. Everyone told them the standard fare about getting help from professional who deal with such cases or it was out of their realm of expertise.
Though also not confirmed it was reported that the family tried to contact many world-renowned experts such as Kenneth Deel, Andrew Calder, John Zaffis and the Catholic Church who are considered the best in rooting out demons and practice exorcisms and study openly demonology and paranormal activity. They told me they also turned them down thinking that what they brought forward or spoke of as evidence just were a torrent of lies and fabrications, or mental illness run rampant.
The family contacted a local minister who is said to have removed this demon with a impromptu exorcisms in 2 minutes during a Sunday Church Revival meeting.
True or not the demonic ghost possession hysteria in this case is not an isolated incident.
Many who dabble in researching the paranormal come across people with these strange and over the top claims. And as serious paranormal investigators, we all know that many people will lie for what ever reason they might contrive to only get their faces on television.
One must realize now that there or those that just want attention. And making claims that the devil is hiding inside of them is often a true way to get the community to notice them.
Though now a days a direct school of thought is that such hoax's might lead to serious incidents and still these bogus claims might just be the devil actually at work behind the scenes.
For those that make the real claims that someone in their life is possessed by a devil or ghosts or diabolical dark forces or often the person of suspicion. Their horrific tales range from extraordinary claims of people walking on ceilings, strange voices coming from peoples stomachs, and what seems to be snippets taken straight out of current movies like Paranormal Activity and the demonic classic of all times The Exorcist. And of course whether we the people alive today believe it or not, there are in this world many individuals that seek out demonic forces. And their intent for such and serious reasons can vary.
Some call up demons to use their aid in gaining success. Others call them to make a man or woman fall in love with them or to leave their spouses and become armored with them alone. Yet still some call on these dark forces to wreck havoc in the lives of others for their own evil reasons. All of which sounds like something out of the old accounts of the 1600's witch hysteria, or the tales of Faust.
The real serious lasting dangers of real Demonic Possession
"Today many people do not believe in prayer or God." "And they too often brush aside the belief that unseen powers such as dark demonic forces can and will effect them." States, Lisa Lee Harp Waugh The American Necromancer. "Demonic and ghost possession is often confused."
"We today often write off such cases and lunacy, strange mental Illnesses or a intense overwhelming disease of the mind is simply not the simple answer." "Truth is in what you experience and believe, and such cases need the jaundiced eye of scientific scrutiny to be opened."
Waugh as such notables as well known demonologist as Kenneth Deel, do not capitalize in the paranormal investigation field, of glamorizing demons, “demonologists” and exorcisms. They believe the problem to be real, and they directly face it with a real fear and respect.
Kenneth Deel states:
First, to clear up a misconception, the ‘Roman Ritual’ does require prior consent for the Local Archdiocese (Bishop). And it must be performed by an appoint Catholic (Priest) Exorcist. I read how some believe that a ‘blessing’ and other deliverance prayers are considered by some as prayers of an ‘Exorcism’ which to the Catholic church, is not true.
One might use other prayers to effectively remove spirits, but the word exorcism in the church refers mainly to the ROMAN RITUAL.
As I have found some Catholic prayers groups most often led by a priest, may take on some ‘deliverance’ tasks, but the Roman Ritual is not performed.
Saint Michael prayer, Rosaries, and other prayers of intercession may be said. And even so away from the home or person(s) in need of deliverance.
This is one reason I say to use the word “deliverance’ consoling and ministries when seeking help with Clergy. Don’t say you need an ‘exorcism’.
Demonic supernatural powers are believed to include fabrication telling of straight out lies to confuse those it converses with, psycho kinesis, levitation, divination, possession, seduction, ESP, telepathy, witchcraft, and curses, as well as binding, making contracts, controlling the classical elements, animal control, and provocation.
True dark spirits or ghosts and Demons use variants and combinations of these powers to harass, demoralize, confuse, and disorient the victim, or the willing subject of demonic interest. All of these attacks, as well as their effect or scope, can be nulled by God. but this a person must believe and have faith in.
Demons are believed to have the power to physically or mentally hurt people, but only within the boundaries of what God will allow.
Demons can destroy any material on the earth; these supernatural powers are always inferior to the power of God. God may use His will to cancel or destroy any effect the demon chooses to invoke.
According to the gospels, Jesus also had full power over demons, and they always obeyed his commands.
Demons, assembly, are granted permission to test, bring about trials, and to tempt people through the use of their destructive powers, to make people prove their faith, sometimes as a means to carry out the will of the Lord. Often Demons are said to create negative emotions, wreaking havoc, ensuing chaos, and disrupting peace.
In Glenn Hass recent article demonic investigative article "INVESTIGATING AND RESEARCHING REAL DEMONS AND POSSESION!" Hass directly points out many extreme cases from the recent past and those catching our attention today.
These intense documented cases of possession seem to be the standard by which all true demonic possession is measured.
In religion and mythology, occultism and folklore, a demon (or daemon, daimon; from Greek δαίμων daimôn) is a supernatural being that is generally described as a malevolent spirit. In ghost Hunting and many paranormal circles some believe them just to be the ghosts or horrible spirits that possess people and pretend to be the devil or his minions. ; however, the original neutral connotations of the Greek word daimon does not carry the negative ones that were later projected onto it, as Christianity spread.
In Ancient Near Eastern religions as well as in the derived Abrahamic traditions, including ancient and medieval Christian demonology, a demon is considered an "unclean spirit" which may cause demonic possession, to be addressed with an act of exorcism. In Western occultism and Renaissance magic, which grew out of an amalgamation of pagan Greco-Roman, Jewish and Christian tradition, a demon is considered a spiritual entity that may be conjured and controlled
Demonic possession is often the term used to describe the control over a human form by a demon. Descriptions of demonic possessions often include: erased memories or personalities, convulsions, “fits” and fainting as if one were dying. Unlike in channeling or other forms of possession, the subject has no control over the possessing entity and so it will persist until forced to leave the victim, usually through a form of exorcism. Other descriptions include access to hidden knowledge and foreign languages, drastic changes in vocal intonation and facial structure, sudden appearance of injury (scratches, bite marks) or lesions, and superhuman strength. Many cultures and religions contain some concept of demonic possession, but the details vary considerably.
The Roma people believe that demons can also possess animals, plants, deceased persons or inanimate objects. The oldest references to demonic possession are from the Sumerians, who believed that all diseases of the body and mind were caused by "sickness demons" called gidim or gid-dim. The priests who practiced exorcisms in these nations were called ashipu (sorcerer) as opposed to an asu (physician) who applied bandages and salves.
Many cuneiform tablets contain prayers to certain gods asking for protection from demons, while others ask the gods to expel the demons that have invaded their bodies. Most illustrations portray these spirits as small, sadistic-looking or tormented-looking beings with a human likeness.
Demons are often referenced as familiars. Witches would provide shelter and nourishment via the witches' teat in exchange for the valuable services of familiars.
Anneliese Michel
Anneliese Michel (September 21, 1952 – July 1, 1976) was a German Catholic woman who was said to be possessed by demons and subsequently underwent an exorcism. Two motion pictures, The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Requiem, are loosely based on Michel's story.
Robbie Mannheim (also known as Roland Doe; born 1 June 1935) is the pseudonym given by historian Thomas B. Allen to an anonymous individual most notably known for allegedly being possessed and later exorcised during his childhood in the late 1940s. The alleged events which were reported in the media of the time and the subsequent claims surrounding those events went on to inspire the 1971 novel The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty and the 1973 film of the same name, as well as Thomas B. Allen's own 1993 book Possessed and the following 2000 television film by the same name.
The identity of Mannheim has never been revealed however he is reported as having no memory of being possessed.
Most of the information regarding him and the events surrounding his alleged possession and exorcism comes from secondary and tertiary sources. Around the time of the alleged events there were several newspaper articles printed attributed to anonymous reports which were later sourced back to be that of the family's clergyman, Reverend Luther Miles Schulze.
Another article was written on the subject in the January 1975 edition of Fate magazine titled “The Truth Behind The Exorcist,”. This article alleges to reveal previously unknown details from a diary kept by one of the priests involved in the exorcism.
Two other main sources were obtained roughly 50 years after the alleged events by the investigation of Thomas B. Allen and form the basis for his book on the subject, Possessed. One is the testimony of Rev. Walter H. Halloran, at the time one of the last surviving eyewitnesses of the events.
The other is a diary which was kept at the time of the events by a Rev. Raymond J. Bishop, another clergyman which became involved in the events after March 9, 1949, several months after it is claimed the initial symptoms occurred. The same diary used by the 1975 Fate article.
Another author, Mark Opsasnick claims to have independently investigated these events and spoken to people involved in the case, including several people close to Mannheim and his family, other priests in their parish, a source at the hospital mentioned in the claims and even Allen and Halloran.
The results of his investigation are published as an article in Strange Magazine called "The Haunted Boy of Cottage City: The Cold Hard Facts Behind the Story That Inspired "The Exorcist"." In the article Opsasnick describes the inconsistencies he found in the reports and other testimonies which he claims brings into question the veracity of the claims as reported in Allen's book, especially the more fantastic and supernatural claims, such as the claim that Mannheim spoke languages he couldn't know; According to Opsasnick, Halloran himself admitted he thought Mannheim had simply mimicked Latin words he heard the clergymen speak. In conclusion Opsasnick writes "Those involved saw what they were trained to see".
According to the traditional story, the boy then underwent an exorcism under auspices of the Anglican (Episcopal) Church. After this, the case was referred to Rev. Edward Hughes, a Roman Catholic priest, who, after examining the boy at St. James Church, conducted an exorcism on the fourteen year old boy at Georgetown University Hospital, a Jesuit institution.
During the exorcism, the boy inflicted a wound upon the pastor, costing him stitches; as a result, the exorcism ritual was stopped and the boy went home to be with his family.
While Robbie Mannheim was in his house, he screamed as he and his family saw the words "St. Louis" written upon his chest in blood; this city was the place where his Aunt Harriet had died.
The family then proceeded to take the train to St. Louis.
While they were in the city, Robbie's cousin contacted one of his professors at St. Louis University, Rev. Raymond J. Bishop, SJ, who in turn, spoke to Rev. William S. Bowdern, an associate of College Church.
Together, both vicars visited Robbie in his relatives home, where they noticed his aversion to anything sacred, a shaking bed, flying objects, and Robbie speaking in a demoniacal voice.
In light of these observations, Rev. Bowdern sought permission from the archbishop to have the plaguing demons cast out from the boy.
The archbishop approved the exorcism with three stipulations:
1. Rev. William S. Bowdern, would be in charge of performing the exorcism upon Robbie Mannheim.
2. Rev. Bowdern was to keep a detailed diary of the deliverance.
3. Rev. Bowdern was not to disclose his position and the location of the ritual, the fifth floor of Alexian Brothers Hospital.
Before the exorcism ritual began, Rev. Walter Halloran was called to the psychiatric wing of the hospital, where he was asked to assist Rev. Bowdern in the deliverance. Rev. William Van Roo, third Jesuit priest, was also there to assist Rev. Bowdern in casting out the unclean spirits from Mannheim.
During the exorcism, Robbie spat in the eyes of the pastors, despite the fact that his eyes were closed. Rev. Halloran stated that during this scene of spiritual warfare, Robbie's hospital bed shook disturbingly, a vessel of holy water went soaring through the air, and words such as "evil" and "hell", along with other various marks, appeared on the teenager's body. Moreover, Robbie broke Rev. Halloran's nose during the process. Robbie Mannheim, while being exorcised, also often shouted in an abnormal tone of voice, which was unlike his normal tone of voice. In total, the exorcism ritual to cast out demons from the boy's body were performed thirty times over a period of two months.
The clerics, asked the demons when they would flee, who responded to Rev. Bowdern and Rev. Halloran that they would depart when the Robbie uttered the proper words.
Eventually, Robbie Mannheim said "Christus, Domini" or "Christ, Lord." When these words were spoken, there were reports of a loud noise, noted as a "thunderclap" or "shotgun" throughout the floors of the hospital. After this pandemonium, Robbie Mannheim declared "It's over. It's over." The room in which the deliverance was performed was then sealed off in order that none would be able to reenter that area.
Certain aspects of this story have come under dispute.
Mark Opsasnick claims that he found no evidence that Father Hughes ever attempted to exorcise the boy at Georgetown University Hospital nor that he recevied a slash or injury at that time. In addition, Father Halloran himself allegedly told Opsasnick that he did not hear the boy's voice change and that he didn't check the boys fingernails and see if he made the marks himself.
In addition one of the boys friends allegedly told Opsasnick that the "supernatural" events were exaggerated and that the spitting and bed shaking could be explained.

Exorcism (from Late Latin exorcismus, from Greek exorkizein - to bind by oath) is the practice of evicting demons or other spiritual entities from a person or place which they are believed to have possessed by causing the entity to swear an oath. The term became prominent in early Christianity from the early second century onward as the casting out of demons.
In the Roman Catholic Church, any Priest ordained prior to, or outside of, the changes made by the Second Vatican Council would have received the minor title of exorcist. In the Old Catholic Church and independent Catholic jurisdictions, qualifications for the title of exorcist vary. Some of those that have been publicly recognized for their exorcisms include:

Pazuzu
Although frequently regarded as a malevolent demon of the underworld, Pazuzu seems also to have played a beneficent role as a protector against pestilential winds (and particularly the south-west wind). Moreover, Pazuzu's association with Lamaštu led to his employment as a force against her evil, forcing her back into the Underworld. Amulets of the demon Pazuzu (or simply of his head and face) were therefore often situated in houses or hung about the necks of pregnant women.
Bronze amulet head of Pazuzu. Neo-Assyrian period, circa 800-550 BCE. Probably from Nimrud (ancient Kalhu), northern Iraq. British Museum ANE 93089
Pazuzu is often depicted as a combination of animal and human parts. He has the body of a man, the head of a lion or dog, eagle-like taloned feet, two pairs of wings, a scorpion's tail, and a serpentine penis. He is often depicted with his right hand pointing upward and his left hand downward. The position of the hands means respectively life and death (or creation and destruction).

Pazuzu, the demon in the 1973 film The Exorcist -- At the beginning of the book and film The Exorcist, when Father Merrin is at the site of an archaelogical dig in Northern Iraq, the menacing sculpted figure is Pazuzu, whom he had battled in an exorcism several years earlier.
Scene with Pazuzu from The Exorcist
When Merrin is later appointed to perform the exorcism on Regan MacNeil, he suspects it is Pazuzu that possesses her. There is a foreboding scene in which Pazuzu recognizes his old adversary Merrin arriving to perform an exorcism. The 1977 sequel Exorcist II: The Heretic, the 1990 The Exorcist III, the 2004 prequel Exorcist: The Beginning, and the other 2005 prequel Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist also involve Pazuzu.

William S. Burroughs, Cities of the Red Night
A winged demon, feared by the people of ancient Mesopotamia. It is a creature with a deformed head, the wings of an eagle, the sharp claws of a lion on its hands and feet, and the tail of a scorpion. This demon is the personification of the south-east storm wind, which brings diseases. The Mesopotamians believed that Pazuzu lived in the desert.
