The
Ghost Hunter’s Field Guide
Gettysburg & Beyond
By Mark Nesbitt
“Of
all the forlorn, countless souls awash in time,
none reach out to us more than those of the dead
at Gettysburg.”
— Mark Nesbitt, author of
the Ghosts of Gettysburg series
Mark Nesbitt, author
of the best-selling Ghosts of Gettysburg book series
recently won two national awards for his six-volume
collection of tales of paranormal happenings on
the battlefield of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, site
of the 3-day Civil War battle.
What is a ghost? What makes Gettysburg such a
haunted venue? Where does one go in Gettysburg
to find a ghost? The quest for answers to these
questions, and countless others, is the driving
force behind why so many travel to Gettysburg,
Pennsylvania, in search of their own paranormal
experience.
In The Ghost Hunter’s
Field Guide: Gettysburg & Beyond, renowned ghost
story author, historian, and paranormal investigator,
Mark Nesbitt, explores the world of the paranormal,
focusing on the town of Gettysburg and the infamous
battlefields that surround it.
The first half of the book delves into the history
and phenomena of “ghosts,” reviews
generally accepted paranormal theories, discusses
best “ghost hunting” practices, and
presents the reader with plausible explanations
as to why paranormal activity is so prevalent
in Gettysburg.
The second half
of the book addresses the actual paranormal investigation.
Designed to be used in the field, the town of Gettysburg
and the battlefield are divided into six sections.
The reader is provided with historical information,
photos, maps, driving directions, and paranormal
investigative tips and techniques unique to each
geographic area. Experienced and amateur “ghost
hunters” alike will profit from the advice
and guidance offered in this one-of-a-kind book.
Mark Nesbitt was born in Lorain, Ohio, and graduated
from Baldwin-Wallace College with a BA in English
Literature. He worked for the National Park Service
as a Ranger/Historian for five years and then
became a Licensed Battlefield Guide. During his
tenure with the National Park Service, he had
the opportunity to spent time in nearly every
historic house on the Park and actually lived
in four of the historic homes. Living in Gettysburg
since 1971 has given him a unique “insider”
perspective from which to write this book.
Mr. Nesbitt published
the first book in the popular Ghosts of Gettysburg
series in 1991. The Ghosts of Gettysburg Series
received the National Paranormal Award for “Best
True Hauntings Collection” and “Best
‘Local Haunt’ Guidebook.” The
Ghosts of Gettysburg stories have been seen, and/or
heard, on The History Channel, A&E, The Discovery
Channel, The Travel Channel, Unsolved Mysteries,
and Coast to Coast AM.
