HAUNTED CHAIR

HAUNTED CHAIR

by Ruby Hedges

Many have heard of cursed chairs, where someone sits in them and they die. Or a haunted chair where the ghost of it's long lost owner still haunts it and lets none sit in it.

From dinning to desk, padded stuffed, electric chairs where so many criminals were exicuted, a rocking chair rocking by itself.

Stories of haunted or cursed chairs are nothing new, sitting in one and tempting the fates is all part of what the curious and the debunkers consider all part of the game. A story over the years that circulates once in a while is about a chair that whom ever sits in drops dead.

I have heard many tales of young couples expecting their first child who have bought a rocking chair brought it home and they have wished they had left it where they got it from.

The Busby Stoop Inn at Kirby Wiske a village near Thirsk takes its odd name from an 18th- century owner and his 'stoop' or tall chair. It is the chair that is haunted or rather cursed the disreputable Busby appears to have eked out his living by coin-clipping. Thieving and receiving stolen goods he was eventually sentenced to death for murder of a female relative As he was dragged from his inn he swore that anyone who sat in his 'stoop' would die as violently and suddenly as he himself was about to do;

Simon Theaskston, whose brewery owned the pub until 1978 said the legend may be odd and vague, but it is a matter of record that in the last 200 years or so death has struck anyone who dared to sit in the chair within a very short time. 'they said that many who sat in the chair were dead within days! or even hours. Eventually the chair was moved out of harm's way.

It has to be said that many of the chairs victims of thc last few decades could be categorised as 'high risk' anyway. They included an RAF pilot (killed the following day). A motorist (who crashed the next day and died of his injuries), a motocyclist (killed shortly after leaving the pub), a holiday hitch-hiker (knocked down and killed two days later) and a local man in his late thirties (who died of a massive heart attack the following night). But the odds against all of them dying so soon after sitting in the Busby stoop must be high enough to suggest this was no mere coincidence.

EBAY'S HAUNTED CHAIRS FOR SALE

Recently on Ebay up for auction is a chair purchased in an Essex Massachussets. antiques store, the woman purchased the chair from the chair was taken from a house in Gloucester Massachussets. that had been vacant for over fifty years, and believed to be haunted, when it came time that someone purchased the house all of the furniture was dumped off at the antiques store. The appolstered must be all redone, there is also a crack in the wood but it is still extremely sturdy, i hope to see it go to someone who will make my dream come alive and put the work into this chair to make it a beautiful piece of history as it once was.

On Aug-15-06 at 10:54:40 PDT, seller added the following information:

I have recently been informed that this chair is actually from the mid 1800's when gothic furniture and houses were popular, i have been getting lots of comments and more info on this chair as people are looking at it, a friend from the historic society was telling me that this was where Captain Fitz Lane would sit and look out of his house at the gloucester harbor and supposedly that is who haunts the old house.

Antique Haunted Chair On Ebay

I never thought anything strange about the chair until I began having dreams. In my dreams I would see this old woman sitting on the chair knitting and humming a tune I still can’t get out of my head. I never said anything about the dreams until my husband said the chair was strange.

Haunted Chair
We found two this is the second one. Nov-20-06

Hello and thank you for taking the time to look. There is a very interesting story behind this chair. Our family loves Gettysburg P.A we go there all the time. The last time we went was October 13-15 they have the apple festival. The first night we were there we went in to the park to see the sights. There is a place in the park that is haunted its been on the travel channel it is very well know. The family went to see it. The place in the park is called the Triangular field as we got to the bottom of the field show in the picture we found one of two chairs there was no one there at the time and there was this random chair. Well we walked back in to the woods and there was another one the chair I have shown in the picture. Well of course we did what anyone in are shoes would have done we took them. Well that is where we went wrong scene we have had them strange things have been happing around the house I cant understand. They fascinated me I took it open my self to refinish them. I have heard people walking threw the house when I am the only one home. I walk by and at times its like I am hitting a cold spot in the house I look for a vent or an open window but there’s nothing. The way the chair is built is that when someone is in it the fabric stretches well I have walked by it and it looks like someone is sitting in it. I feel like I am being watched. Its just very strange because before we had them nothing ever felt wrong about our house but now its like there is someone in the house with us watching every move we make. Here is a little history about were we found them. The fight to take Devils Den began here, in the Triangular Field, around 4 pm on July 2, the second day of battle at Gettysburg.

A more definitive account of this attack can be read at our Devils Den History page.
In the view at left, the foreground was held by Union troops, and the vista to the rear concealed the arriving brigades of Confederate General Hood.

In a series of attacks and counter-attacks that lasted over two hours, the Union position was ultimately crushed and held by the Confederates.

The victory here by the Confederates posed an immediate threat to the Union left flank anchored on Little Round Top, a fact soon recognized by Union Major General G. K. Warren.

A haunted high chair
cursed, frightening supernatural occurrences Nov-18-06

While working for a moving company several years ago, i was packing an elderly womans garage. At this time I came across this chair, and asked the home owner if she wanted it packed or thrown away. She became very upset and actually started to cry. She then informed me that the chair had caused her great pain and she wanted it thrown away. She insisted that the chair was evil and should be destroyed.I was intrigued by her story and emotion so i took the chair home and stored it away in my garage. On two occasions i have heard strange child like crying noises in my dining room, which sits above my garage. These noises made the hair on my arms stand straight up. I dont know if the chair actually is haunted or not, but i know i dont want it. I figured someone with experience in the paranormal may want to take a look at it.

NO RESERVE !!!

GENUINE HAUNTED GHOST Activity.

ACTIVE Paranormal reading.

Paranormal presence of SPIRITS!!!

This was purchased by us at an estate sale of an old woman who lived alone forever they say, she was a local who was a healer of some sort, some called her a Witch because of her odd healing ways. They say she only drank homemade teas & healed herself & others who asked with herbal remedies with positive results.

They say she never visited a doctor in her life, they tell stories of how old timers trusted her every word about when to plant vegetables & crops. They say she worked by the light of the moon & stayed inside in the sunlight. Some say she was odd because of a spell they say she put on a high school sweetheart that went bad & he committed suicide & she never forgave herself or never married.
They say her daddy was an undertaker & her momma was just plain crazy, Anna was their only living child, her twin died at birth.

You know people in small communities can create a world of folklore about a Eccentric Person but one thing I can tell you for sure is that she was without a doubt a TRUE WITCH in my opinion.

I never did find a Book of Shadows but I did find many small black books with penciled in "prayers" & dated when she made remedies for this one or that one.

This is an antique & is being sold in as is condition. Item has Paranormal vibrations

HAUNTED BED

The bed is very beautiful the kind of bed that you'd die for. But, I often wonder who died in it? I realize that when you inherit old furniture more then history, or a story may be attached. A ghost may move in with the furniture or be attached to it I've so been told by Ghost hunters and Psychic researhers. Ghostly writing appears out of no where on foot board and headboard. I am really frightened says Mary Cole who sleeps alone in the bed. I am at my witts end.

The so very haunted bed came with the home we rented. I think the antique bed is haunted not the house .I hear knocking on the head board, and scratching. Says Steve Watson.

HAUNTED PAINTINGS

Some are haunted by Divinci's Mona Lisa, others by something in a painting that bothers them. Can contemporary Paintings be actually haunted? Are is it just imagined?

A gifted Norwegian painter and printmaker, Edvard Munch not only was his country's greatest artist, but also played a vital role in the development of German expressionism. His work often included the symbolic portrayal of such themes as misery, sickness, and death. The Cry, or The Scream probably his most familiar painting, is typical in its anguished expression of isolation and fear. And often called the most haunted painting in the world because of the direct affect it has on so many who view it.

HAUNTED TEDDY BEARS

BEAR FACTS: RESIDENT GHOST HUNTER GINA LANIER TAKES ON THE TEDDIES!

Perhaps no childhood companion is more familiar or more revered than the Teddy Bear. Friend, companion, confidante, protector, playmate – these are just some of the roles the loyal, loving Teddy Bear has assumed over the years. Since its introduction to the world in the early 1900’s, the Teddy Bear – named after American President Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt – has been the indisputable image of a happy childhood.

But is it possible that the beneficent Teddy Bear, like many other childhood toys, has a darker side, less often seen, but once experienced, impossible to forget? Is it within the realm of reason that the fuzzy friends of our childhood, living and sharing every moment with their adopted children, might take on a life all their own once the innocence of youth has worn away? Can it be possible that the beloved Teddy Bear is actually the most haunted (and haunting!) toy of all time

HAUNTED DOLLS

LIVING DOLLS
Tales from a truly creepy toy chest. There is probably no one reading this who has not had a disturbing experience at one time or another involving that most simple and supposedly benign object, a child’s doll.

Ask around at any party where the conversation turns to the supernatural and someone will inevitably pipe up with a creepy story about an encounter with a doll that seemed to have a life and will all its own. Invariably, the doll was the object of fear and loathing in someone’s home until the children were old enough to abandon such things. If they were lucky, the doll was given away – maybe it was passed on to some unfortunate cousin; if they weren’t so lucky, the doll was relegated to storage in the labyrinthine darkness of the attic where it often became to object of even more terror
