The Driskill is located not far from
the great Texas Capitol Building. The
hotel was built by Texas cattle baron
Col. Jesse Driskill and opened it's
doors in 1886.
It may also be a haven
for spirits. In fact, those who don't
believe San Antonio's Menger Hotel is
the most haunted lodging in Texas probably
believe that The Driskill is. Col. Driskill
himself is said to visit rooms on the
top floor, turning on lights and the
haunted smell of his nasty smoking cigars.
The grand staircase is said to be a
favorite play area for a giggling little
girl. She is often seen wearing a pink
ruffled dress and has been none to even
fall down the stairs. startled guest
rush over to see if the child is alright
but find the place where she lands empty.
Many visitors have
reported seeing a man checking his watch
as they get off an elevator ... only
to turn around and find no man there.
Another Texas ghost is that of a short
woman with a big hat that bumps into
you and says " So, so sorry...
I'm confused ." then dissapears.The
elevators at The Driskill seem to be
the center of the alleged hauntings.
The Inn at Pearl Street is a bed-and-breakfast
establishment in a Greek Revival style
home near the University of Texas. It
has often been called one of the most
romantic B&Bs in Austin.
The Inn underwent
a major renovation, during which time
there was no electrical power. That
didn't stop the ghostly occurrences.
Strangely lights kept flashing on and
off, according to many eye witness reports.
A long-ago owner
of the home, Stella Snider, is thought
to be one of the ghostly apparitions
that haunt the building. Some have claimed
to see a woman carrying a small child
out of one guest room into another,
while others have allegedly seen the
same woman rocking a child to sleep
in a rocking chair. Also often heard
they say is the sound of a heavy haunted
foot step and a knocking on your door
, only to find no one is there.
