Boredom is an emotional state experienced during periods lacking activity or when individuals are uninterested in the activities surrounding them. The first record of the word boredom is in the novel Bleak House by Charles Dickens, written in 1852, in which it appears six times, although the expression to be a bore had been used in the sense of "to be tiresome or dull" since 1768.
There are three types of boredom, all of which involve problems of engagement of attention. These include times when we are prevented from engaging in something, when we are forced to engage in some unwanted activity, or when we are simply unable, for no apparent reason, to maintain engagement in any activity or spectacle. Boredom proneness is a tendency to experience boredom of all types. This is typically assessed by the Boredom Proneness Scale. Consistent with the definition provided above, recent research has found that boredom proneness is clearly and consistently associated with failures of attention.
Boredom and boredom proneness are both theoretically and empirically linked to depression and depressive symptoms. Nonetheless, boredom proneness has been found to be as strongly correlated with attentional lapses as with depression.
Boredom is a condition characterized by perception of one's environment as dull, tedious, and lacking in stimulation. This can result from leisure and a lack of aesthetic interests. Labor, however, and even art may be alienated and passive, or immersed in tedium (see Marx's theory of alienation). There is an inherent anxiety in boredom; people will expend considerable effort to prevent or remedy it, yet in many circumstances, it is accepted as suffering to be endured. Common passive ways to escape boredom are to sleep or to think creative thoughts (daydream). Typical active solutions consist in an intentional activity of some sort, often something new, as familiarity and repetition lead to the tedious.
Although boredom is often viewed as a trivial and mild irritant, proneness to boredom has been linked to a very diverse range of possible psychological, physical, educational, and social problems.
BUT WAS IS PARANOMAL BOREDOM?
Paranormal boredom is when you search the internet for new real ghost photos, EVP's or information on Cryptids and UFO's. And all you find is the same old haunted shit that was there the day before that... and the day before that.
I could not tell you how many haunted group web sites I visit and all I find is a few lame photos and weak promises. Then I sit and think, is it them or am I bored in researching the paranormal?
Yes folks I realized I am bored, complacent and no longer impressed by shadow ghost images or garbled EVP's. I am ready for the next paranormal investigative highs.
Maybe I will look into haunted toys, no maybe haunted rings and gold jewelry. Wait better yet sex with real ghosts!
The Cure For Paranormal Boredom
Lisa Lee Harp Waugh is a Paranormal expert in my book. The first lady of American Necromancy, and a proud Texan. She is someone to learn from. Her answers her words her learned ways have taught me a great deal about how to evolve as a paranormal investigator.
If all you do is research the dead then once you find them see what beneficial things they can bring into your life.
You learn allot about people over the internet but do you really see into their hearts. As a paranormal research since the first episode of TAPS that I saw. I have moved on to the heavy stuff.
Just like a drug I enjoyed Jason And Grant on every level. Then I got bored. Then came Ghost Hunters International. I was bored at the first episode. I was in a de lima. I guess I had by my own investigations, research in looking at all the ghost photos and documentation on the internet. just out grown them. I still loved ghost hunting, but I watched the dhows in a different light.
I found what they were doing as boring baby -ish and many times down right stupid.
I guess I was bored with them. Steve was no longer hot looking in my eyes . Maybe I just knew to much about him from 5 years on SCi-Fi.
Then it hit me like a bucket of slime. I was ready to move on. Ready to investigate things on a grander scale. Which means I could enjoy Ghost Hunters again I just had to look at it as how it was presented. Then something happened.
Call it paranormal if you like . But their show then got better. It was like Ghost Hunting 202.
So I realized what this boredom was. it was the fact that I had progressed into a learned professional Ghost Hunter.
Well now a days when I get bored with the paranormal. I realize it's time to look for something paranormal and hot to investigate. Paranormal Boredom is a sign that you are ready to learn more see more do more then just sit and look at all there is to see.
