The popularity
of ghost tours has spawned some interesting
variations. Some have their guests go
around with a ghost-detection machine.
while still others are more theatrical,
lead by a costumed character, rather than
just historical. Some ghost walking tours
may not appropriate for children under
12; the other, more historical tours are
much better suited to families. Always

The Queen Mary from its beautiful Art Deco
salons to the depths of its darkest corridors,
The Queen Mary has been a constant source
for stories, articles and documentaries
about supernatural sightings and other unexplained
activity. Do ghosts really exist aboard
the Queen Mary?
This grand old ship doesn't qualify as a
house, of course, but it is quite haunted.
Once a celebrated luxury ocean liner, when
it ended its sailing days the Queen Mary
was purchased by the city of Long Beach,
California in 1967 and transformed into
a hotel. The most haunted area of the ship
is the engine room where a 17-year-old sailor
was crushed to death trying to escape a
fire. Knocking and banging on the pipes
around the door has been heard and recorded
by numerous people. In what is now the front
desk area of the hotel, visitors have seen
the ghost of a "lady in white."
Ghosts of children are said to haunt the
ship's pool. The spirit of a young girl,
who allegedly broke her neck in an accident
at the pool, has been heard asking for her
mother or her doll. In the hallway of the
pool's changing rooms is an area of unexplained
activity.
Furniture moves about by itself, people
feel the touch of unseen hands and unknown
spirits appear. In the front hull of the
ship, a specter can sometimes be heard screaming
- the pained voice, some believe, of a sailor
who was killed when the Queen Mary collided
with a smaller ship.

Dare to look for Boston Spirits
on this 90 minute tour.
We meet at Boston Common Visitor
Information Center,
147 Tremont Street, on selected
evenings at 7:30 p.m.
This unique tour
takes you to downtown Boston's most
infamous haunted locations.
Will you glimpse
the roaming spirits of witches and
other "undesirables" hanged
and buried in the Boston Common?
Will you be grabbed from behind
by the ghost of the Central Burying
Ground?
After fleeing
the burial ground, you will make
your way across the Common and into
the well-lit and beautifully manicured
confines of the Public Garden. Nothing
bad could happen here. It's too
upper crust to allow such petty
thoughts of unquiet spirits and
unmarked graves. As if sensing your
returning bravery, you are led over
to the statue of a cherub that stands
stoically in a fountain near the
Arlington Street entrance. Nothing
bad could happen here.... Unless,
of course, you, too, can see the
two elderly ladies - the legendary
"Proper Bostonians" -
dressed in the style of the 1930s
coming over from the Ritz Carlton.
Just like they've been doing for
the past 60 years. Sometimes they
stop and smile hello. Just before
they disappear into thin air.

Witches, Wizards and Pirates
This popular bus tour takes you
to the coastal towns of Salem and
Marblehead, along Massachusetts'
scenic North Shore. In Salem, the
Witch City, search for the ghost
of the accused witch Giles Corey,
floating among the headstones of
the Howard Street Cemetery. Visit
the haunted Joshua Ward House, built
in 1784.
In picturesque Marblehead you will
hear the horrifying tales of the
Screeching Lady Beach and the beast
of Baker's Island. Walk with us
through the Old Burial Hill, high
above Marblehead Harbor. From here,
on stormy nights, the wizard Diamond
can still be heard commanding ships
at sea into safe harbor! And can
you smell the rose water made by
Aunt Creese on the haunted lane?
Colonial and Native
American Spirits
On this bus tour you will visit
the colonial towns of Concord, Littleton
and Groton, Massachusetts. We begin
at the Colonial Inn, Concord, built
in 1716. It was the home of Dr.
Timothy Minot, who treated casualties
of the Revolutionary War, and who
is still making house calls today!
In Littleton, another eighteenth
century doctor roams—this
time through a graveyard, searching
for his betrothed. Hear the story
of the Native American Bearman—
half man, half bear—whose
footsteps have been seen in a place
called Scratch Flat.
We conclude the tour at the Stagecoach
Inn and Tavern in Groton, built
in 1675. This beautiful old building
houses several spirits, chief among
them the murdered mother and child
who are seen in the dining room.

Blood
Runs Cold In New "Beyond Bizarre"
Tour Exploring Portland 's Haunted
Hideaways and Supernatural Stories
Unexplained mysteries, ghostly
adventures and spooky stories
fill the new "Beyond Bizarre"
evening tour from Portland Walking
Tours. The tour begins July 1
and offers both family-friendly
and over-21 versions.
"We hired a leading expert
on the paranormal and a proven
clairvoyant to help us develop
this tour and now, as certified
members of the International Ghost
Hunters Society, we're leading
walkers on an eerie crawl through
the creepiest parts of our town,"
said David Schargel, founder of
Portland Walking Tours. "Our
popular Best of Portland, Epicurean
Excursion and Underground Portland
tours have always been historical
and factual, but Portland 's spooky,
weird and wacky past haunted us
until we gave in and created the
Beyond Bizarre tour."
Armed with real ghost hunting
equipment, walkers venture down
shadowy streets to reveal Portland
's paranormal, catch glimpses
of ghosts, expose psychic hoaxes
and duck through haunted passageways.
The spine-tingling Beyond Bizarre
tour invites thrill-seekers to:
Wield a working electromagnetic
frequency meter to search for
supernatural activity at the entrance
to the legendary underground Shanghai
Tunnels, one of " America
's top ten most haunted places"
according to the Travel Channel;
Visit the site of Portland 's
deadly cholera outbreak while
trying not to disturb the sleeping
spirits lurking in the nearby
burial grounds;
Tiptoe through the top floor of
Portland 's most haunted hotel
to catch a glimpse of skin-crawling
sights; and Hear tales of dark
secrets, strange rituals and things
that go bump in the night.
"In all my years of researching
the paranormal in the Pacific
Northwest, I've never seen an
urban area with a higher concentration
of supernatural activity than
here in Portland ," said
Jefferson Davis, author of A Haunted
Tour Guide to the Pacific Northwest.
"This tour visits the top
three haunted places in the city
and gives walkers the unmatched
opportunity to witness other-worldly
things most never experience."
Family-friendly tours are offered
daily at 7 p.m. and a late-night
version with true tales of murderous
mayhem, deadly debauchery and
extreme weirdness for the over-21
crowd begins at 10 p.m. on Fridays
and Saturdays. All Beyond Bizarre
tours start at Old Town Pizza,
located at 226 NW Davis (between
NW 2nd and 3rd Avenues). Tickets

Adults ($17 when booked online),

the longer 10 p.m. tour are $29

About
Ghosts of Haunted Gettysburg
Over the years since the battle,
stories of scores of sightings,
stranger than reality, have emerged
from the quaint houses and gentle
fields in and around the town of
Gettysburg: Stories of sightings
of these soldiers, moving again
in battle lines, across the fields
where they once marched. . . and
died; tales of visions through a
rip in time into the horrible scene
of a Civil War hospital; whispers
of a look at men long dead held
eternally captive by duty. These
apparitions -and more- come back
to remind us, in one way or another
that they are not to be forgotten
for what they did here. . .
In 1994, Mark started the first
ghost walk in Gettysburg, The Ghosts
of Gettysburg Candlelight Walking
Tours®. Armed with tales from
his ghost books - and with a few
that aren't in the books -guides
dressed in period attire take visitors
on evening tours through sections
of town that were bloody battlefields
13 decades ago; through night-darkened
streets to houses and buildings
where it's not as quiet as it should
be; to sites on the old Pennsylvania
College campus where the slain once
lay in rows, and the wounded suffered
horribly, waiting to become corpses
themselves; to cemeteries where
the dead lie. . . sometimes not
so peacefully. Gettysburg may very
well be, acre for acre, the most
haunted place in America.
Mark Nesbitt is a
former National Park Service Ranger/Historian.
He started his own research and writing
company in 1977 and did research and
advertising copy for some of America's
best historical artists. Beginning
in 1978 he began writing books, including
If the South Won Gettysburg (1980),
35 Days to Gettysburg (1992), Rebel
Rivers (1993), Saber and Scapegoat:
J.E.B. Stuart and the Gettysburg Controversy
(1994), Through Blood and Fire (1996),
and the best selling Ghosts of Gettysburg
Series (1991- present). Many of his
stories have been seen, and/or heard,
on The History Channel, A&E, The
Travel Channel, Unsolved Mysteries,
Coast to Coast AM, and numerous other
local television programs and specials.
In July of 2004, his Ghosts of Gettysburg
Series received the National Paranormal
Award for “Best True Haunting's
Collection” and “Best
‘Local Haunt’ Guidebook”.

Join us on Charleston's original
year-round ghost walk for a brief
encounter with Charleston's most
haunting legends and folk tales.
Our tour is filled with stories
of resident ghosts, haunted inns,
Gullah superstitions and assorted
other ghost stories from Charleston's
haunted history.
Our ghost walk
is based on Charleston Ghosts(by
M.R. Martin), Doctor to the Dead
(by John Bennett), and the growing
body of information being compiled
daily by our own ghost story researchers.
The Original Lowcountry
Ghost Hunt (the initial name of
our tour) was founded in the Summer
of 1994 as the first year-round
ghost tour of Charleston's Historic
District. Our tour was featured
on CNN Travel Guide on October 31,
1994 - just 3 months later. Since
that day our ghost tour has become
Charleston's most popular walking
tour, and guides trained by The
Original Charleston Walks have been
featured on CNN Travel Guide, The
Learning Channel, Charleston's Post
& Courier Newspaper, Charleston
Magazine, and more.
Today visitors
to Charleston must choose from a
variety of ghost tour operators
when selecting an evening's entertainment.
We are confident that the quality
of our ghost tour and our courteous
reservations staff will exceed your
expectations. And we guarantee that
Charleston's original ghost tour
is still the best!

Stacey Allen McGee, CGH is shown
at grave site of his great grandfather
Sergeant Jessie S. Rice who served
in the 13th Union Cavalry (photo
left) during the great Civil War
from 1860 to 1865. Other members
of his family fought for the Confederate
cause in the 64th North Carolina
Infantry. These included V.J. and
Wilson Rice, both of whom are believed
to have died in the battle of "Red
Banks". This battle is thought
to have involved approximately 4000
men and was fought on the banks
of the Nolichucky River, giving
the battle it's colorful name...
In addition, Stacey Allen is the
5th Great Grandson of Major Jonathon
Tipton who fought in the battle
of King's Mountain winning victory
over the British in the Revolutionary
War. His 6th Great Uncle was Col.
John Tipton, Johnathon's brother,
of Tipton-Haynes Historic Site in
Johnson City, Tennessee. Our commitment
to an accurate portrayal of this
region's rich cultural heritage
and history is evident in our Revolutionary
War and Civil War walking tours...

Be sure to bring
your cameras and see if you can
capture a Civil War solider, or
some other ghostly apparition from
the past. Possibly a member of the
Cherokee Nation, or a famous indvidual
will appear to you such as one of
the former Presidents Andrew Jackson,
or Andrew Johnson. If you take our
tour and get any interesting photos
of your own, we would like to analyze
them for you and provide some feedback,
so feel free to email them to us.
We very much appreciate any and
all photographic contributions...
The only limitation
on our tours is that of your own
imagination. Many have experienced
sightings of their own while walking
with us on our Cherokee Indian,
Frontier, Haunted Civil War History
Tours. Will you be among those who
have seen the ghostly form of a
visitor, dressed in attire appropriate
to their age of fashion, visiting
from another time and dimension,
and clothed, for example, in a top
hat and cape?
We currently offer
