Since its founding in 1972 the International Society for Paranormal Research, or ISPR, has continually impacted the science of Parapsychology and pioneered field research.
Dismissing the mindset and practices of those in scientific and academic circles and associations of the early 1970s, ISPR founding Parapsychologist, Dr. Larry Montz, was the first field Parapsychologist to take studies of Psi abilities (psychic abilities) out of a controlled environment (lab) and create varying levels of clairvoyant testing in the field on a daily basis. Other field Parapsychologists still work and conduct paranormal investigations on a part time basis.
Montz was the first Parapsychologist to employ the same personnel with enhanced Psi abilities (including clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairgustus, RV or remote viewing, psychometry, energy manipulation, physical mediumship, empathy, telepathy, etc.) and create the 'Team' concept by combining both scientific and clairvoyant methodologies. This led Montz to develop Enhanced Field Parapsychology or EFP. Decades later, results continue to prove that the professional ISPR Team, utilizing the original team model, has maintained a 95% accuracy rate in field investigations, both paranormal and criminal.
In the early 1990's, a six-year ISPR Research Study of paranormal activities in and around the city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana, was undertaken. But the challenge of testing various Clairvoyants in the field was already won. This led Montz to push the envelope further - prove that people, who were not labeled as psychics, would demonstrate Psi abilities when placed in haunted environments. Under the name of Hauntings Today, Montz designed another first by the creation and implementation of ISPR Ghost Expeditions.
For the general public, Ghost Expeditions provided the first-ever-paranormal event in which a person could choose to participate. Ghost Expeditions participants could garner hands-on experience in actual and documented paranormal field research pertaining to ghosts and hauntings inside actively haunted properties. For the ISPR, Ghost Expeditions allowed the achievement of two primary objectives never before attempted prior by any individual or organization:
- A continuous long-term field study of multiple haunted locations
- The study of Psi Abilities of general public participants as involuntarily applied in the field without prior briefing which is considered a non-controlled control.
Ghost Expeditions opened for operation in the French Quarter of New Orleans in October 1994 and continued through November 1, 1997. By the end of 1996, Ghost Expeditions garnered the international attention of the mass media in print, radio and television and in turn, established Montz in the mass media as a pioneering authority in field Parapsychology worldwide.
Ghost Expeditions were offered in three different levels. The first was open to all. The second was a more sophisticated hands-on investigation of a haunted property. And the third, the Overnight Ghost Expedition, allowed paranormal enthusiasts to spend an entire night in a haunted property.
Some of the most popular Ghost Expedition sites came from ISPR investigations including the Supreme Court Building, Le Petit Theater, the Bourbon Orleans Hotel, the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel, Bacco's Restaurant, the Chart House, Café Beignet, Maxwell's Jazz Cabaret (now One Eyed Jacks), The Williams Research Center, the Napoleon House, The Pharmacy Museum, O'Flaherty's Irish Pub, the Andrew Jackson Hotel, the Pontalbla Buildings, the Jackson Square Cathedral, the Cabildo, the Presbytere, Royal Café, Antoine's, N'awlin's Cookery, Dauphine Orleans Hotel, the Ashley House, Crescent City Books, and many more.
Since 1997, ISPR's Ghost Expeditions continued mass media coverage around the world and became a sought after prize for a wide variety of promotions. Ghost Expeditions became Grand Prizes for promotions with MGM, the foreign release of the X-Files Movie, Bizarre Magazine, Sony Pictures Sweepstakes and the list goes on. At the same time, with rotating destinations of New Orleans, Los Angeles and England, Ghost Expeditions became annual prize packages for network game shows like Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy! and Hollywood Squares.
Beginning in New Orleans and continuing in Hollywood, Ghost Expeditions enjoyed the participation of literally hundreds of television writers, producers, directors, studio and network executives. Ghost Expeditions was the inspiration for a variety of television series including FEAR on MTV, World's Scariest Places on FOX Family then ABC Family and Europe's smash hit, Most Haunted, starring ISPR investigator Derek Acorah.
After concluding the ISPR six-year research study in New Orleans, the ISPR withdrew the citywide respected Ghost Expeditions from the French Quarter. As a result, over fifteen Big Easy ghost tours developed to fill the void, with most tour operators claiming to be ghost hunters and paranormal experts - all enjoying the New Orleans haunted status made known internationally through media attention bestowed on Ghost Expeditions and the ISPR.
Larry Montz, Ph.D., founded the International Society For Paranormal Research, (ISPR) in 1972.
With 33 years of professional field experience, Montz is recognized worldwide for developing and implementing the most innovative new concepts in parapsychological field work, rocking the foundations of Parapsychology, a science that was officially adopted into the Academy in 1964. Because of his own clairvoyant abilities, Montz became the first field Parapsychologist to develop studies of Psi in the field, as well as incorporate these enhanced abilities as additional methods of data collection (1970s). After revolutionizing paranormal field research, Montz has continued to stay far in the forefront of progressive research with his growing endeavors of blending scientific studies with the general public; works which have spanned more than a decade.
Montz became the first recognizable parapsychological expert in the early 1990s through a continuous variety of int'l television and radio programming in addition to int'l print. Montz was the first to bring together, for the first time in history, the most talented, widely accomplished and knowledgeable experts in the field of paranormal research on one team.
Born in Rhode Island to a military family, Montz learned strict disciplines early on. Educated in Catholic Schools for primary and secondary education, Montz questioned the dogma and information he was offered at every turn. His E.E. degree and post graduate degrees in Parapsychology pale when compared to his real life experiences, both professionally and personally. Dr. Montz has had his salary requirements met in many capacities, from Telecommunications Consultant to foreign countries, to developing and installing the first Fiber Optics Network, installed at the 1984 World's Fair in New Orleans, to a multi year deal with Playboy's Hugh Hefner as Telecommunications and Security Systems Engineer, Private Investigator and Personal Bodyguard for Hefner, and Playmate Promotions/Playboy Model Agency Photographer.
In 1990, Montz returned to New Orleans to implement a six year parapsychological research study of the city and the state of Lousiana. Montz is credited with establishing the Big Easy as 'one of them most haunted cities in America'. It was during this time that Montz developed and implemented what is known internationally as ISPR Ghost Expeditions®; another 1st in paranormal field research and the first and original opportunity worldwide, for the lay person to participate in such research.
In 1997, in Hollywood, he partnered with Daena Smoller in the four year parapsychological field study & restoration project of the Vogue Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, part of the multi-billion dollar Hollywood Revitalization Project. The Vogue became a sought after filming location and screening venue for Indy filmmakers and high profile Film Festivals, as well as becoming internationally known for it's seven resident entities.
Montz is a published author and co-creator / producer on the award winning ISPR Investigates: documentary series.

In 1997, the ISPR began offering a more sophisticated series of Ghost Expeditions in Los Angeles, utilizing the formerly haunted Vogue Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, just two blocks east of Hollywood and Highland and the world-famous Grauman's Chinese Theater.
The extensive international multi-media coverage on Dr. Montz, the ISPR and Ghost Expeditions is credited for the birth of a new pop phenomenon - literally hundreds of internet-based ghost clubs, ghost hunters and group ghost hunts, worldwide.
In December of 2001, after black mold developed inside the property, the ISPR concluded its four-year study of the actively haunted Vogue Theatre and the ISPR Team subsequently cleared the property of its seven documented resident entities.
In 1999, the ISPR became one of the first parapsychological organizations to create and produce documentaries. The first two documentary efforts, created and produced by Montz and producing partner Daena Smoller in association with Dotted Line Entertainment, set a new standard and format for paranormal programming that followed. ISPR Investigates Ghosts of England (1999 Telly Award Winner) and ISPR Investigates Ghosts of Belgrave Hall (recipient of the 2002 Hollywood Screamfest International Film Festival's Best Horror Documentary Award), are used as additional teaching tools in universities around the world including UCLA, USC and the University of Edinburgh. These documentaries are now sold around the world in a variety of languages and are literally, the ghost hunting 'Bible" for amateur and proffesional ghost hunters.
Hollywood Celebrities are drawn to the paranormal and the ISPR's list of celebrity clients and celebrities who have participated in Ghost Expeditions and patronized the formerly haunted Vogue, is lengthy and includes such luminaries as: Anne Rice, Comedy Store owner Mitzi Shore, Producer/Director Bob Zmuda, ABC Television and NBC Studios, Scott Baio, Karen Black, Jim Belushi, Brandon Brooks, Delta Burke, Drew Carey, Robbi Chong, Sara Downing, Crystal Gayle, Miriam Gonzales, Tobe Hooper, Leila Kenzle, Lindsay Mckeon, Miller Lite Models, Steve Monroe, Matthew Perry, Brittany Petros, Amanda Plummer, Ricky Ratchman, Rachel Roth, Helen Shaver, Jeremy Sisto, Priscilla Taylor, James Van Praagh, Aaron Van Wagner and John J. York.
After several years of requests from the tourism and hospitality industries in New Orleans, the ISPR re-implemented Ghost Expeditions in the city in October of 2004. Unlike its predecessor, the new ISPR Ghost Expeditions were conducted outside of the French Quarter and exclusively inside non-commercial properties. Within weeks of it's re-opening in New Orleans, Ghost Expeditions reached sell-out status continuously and was heralded as the "IT" paranormal thing to do in Louisiana until Hurricane Katrina in August, 2005.
Today, Ghost Expeditions are back in Los Angeles.

The Queen Mary from its beautiful Art Deco
salons to the depths of its darkest corridors,
The Queen Mary has been a constant source
for stories, articles and documentaries
about supernatural sightings and other unexplained
activity. Do ghosts really exist aboard
the Queen Mary?
This grand old ship doesn't qualify as a
house, of course, but it is quite haunted.
Once a celebrated luxury ocean liner, when
it ended its sailing days the Queen Mary
was purchased by the city of Long Beach,
California in 1967 and transformed into
a hotel. The most haunted area of the ship
is the engine room where a 17-year-old sailor
was crushed to death trying to escape a
fire. Knocking and banging on the pipes
around the door has been heard and recorded
by numerous people. In what is now the front
desk area of the hotel, visitors have seen
the ghost of a "lady in white."
Ghosts of children are said to haunt the
ship's pool. The spirit of a young girl,
who allegedly broke her neck in an accident
at the pool, has been heard asking for her
mother or her doll. In the hallway of the
pool's changing rooms is an area of unexplained
Furniture moves about by itself, people
feel the touch of unseen hands and unknown
spirits appear. In the front hull of the
ship, a specter can sometimes be heard screaming
- the pained voice, some believe, of a sailor
who was killed when the Queen Mary collided
with a smaller ship.

an old, extremely haunted
jail and the jail keeper’s
house. We will take you
to the site of the original
from 1692, where those
accused of witchcraft
were incarcerated. We’ll
also go by the house where
the mysterious “woman
in black” has made
appearances for decades.
And if time allows, we’ll
stop by a notorious murder
site from the 1830’s.
We cannot enter these
buildings as most of them
are closed at night or
privately owned. You will
however have plenty of
ghost photo opportunities
at each location.

on this tour, including
fainting, crying, throwing

only guarantee we can
give you is that all of
the places we visit on
this tour are still haunted
and they continue to have
a lot of paranormal activity!!!
Part of this tour includes
the origin of vampire
folklore and legends,
the historical character
known as Dracula, the
superstitions about vampires
in early New England settlements
and burial practices to
prevent vampirism in New
England. We’ll tell
you about the real “Dracula”.
We’ll also tell
you about documented early
New England vampire cases.
Are there really modern
vampires? What is a true
vampire today? Who are
of the night”? What
about “vampire crimes”?
You’ll find out

Boston Spirits Walking Tour
Dare to look for Boston Spirits
on this 90 minute tour.
We meet at Boston Common Visitor
147 Tremont Street, on selected
evenings at 7:30 p.m.
This unique tour
takes you to downtown Boston's most
infamous haunted locations.
Will you glimpse
the roaming spirits of witches and
other "undesirables" hanged
and buried in the Boston Common?
Will you be grabbed from behind
by the ghost of the Central Burying
the burial ground, you will make
your way across the Common and into
the well-lit and beautifully manicured
confines of the Public Garden. Nothing
bad could happen here. It's too
upper crust to allow such petty
thoughts of unquiet spirits and
unmarked graves. As if sensing your
returning bravery, you are led over
to the statue of a cherub that stands
stoically in a fountain near the
Arlington Street entrance. Nothing
bad could happen here.... Unless,
of course, you, too, can see the
two elderly ladies - the legendary
"Proper Bostonians" -
dressed in the style of the 1930s
coming over from the Ritz Carlton.
Just like they've been doing for
the past 60 years. Sometimes they
stop and smile hello. Just before
they disappear into thin air.
Ghost Tours - Bus Tours
We also offer bus tours to groups
of 30 or more. Advance, prepaid
reservations required. Each bus
tour is approximately 3 1/2 hours
long. Both day and evening tours
are available. N.E.G.T. will provide
the speaker and bus service. Your
group's own bus may be substituted
at a reduced cost. A luncheon at
a haunted restaurant can be provided
for an additional charge. Call us
to arrange your group's tour today!
Witches, Wizards and Pirates
This popular bus tour takes you
to the coastal towns of Salem and
Marblehead, along Massachusetts'
scenic North Shore. In Salem, the
Witch City, search for the ghost
of the accused witch Giles Corey,
floating among the headstones of
the Howard Street Cemetery. Visit
the haunted Joshua Ward House, built
In picturesque Marblehead you will
hear the horrifying tales of the
Screeching Lady Beach and the beast
of Baker's Island. Walk with us
through the Old Burial Hill, high
above Marblehead Harbor. From here,
on stormy nights, the wizard Diamond
can still be heard commanding ships
at sea into safe harbor! And can
you smell the rose water made by
Aunt Creese on the haunted lane?
Colonial and Native
On this bus tour you will visit
the colonial towns of Concord, Littleton
and Groton, Massachusetts. We begin
at the Colonial Inn, Concord, built
in 1716. It was the home of Dr.
Timothy Minot, who treated casualties
of the Revolutionary War, and who
is still making house calls today!
In Littleton, another eighteenth
century doctor roams—this
time through a graveyard, searching
for his betrothed. Hear the story
of the Native American Bearman—
half man, half bear—whose
footsteps have been seen in a place
called Scratch Flat.
We conclude the tour at the Stagecoach
Inn and Tavern in Groton, built
in 1675. This beautiful old building
houses several spirits, chief among
them the murdered mother and child
who are seen in the dining room.

Ghosts of Haunted Gettysburg
Over the years since the battle,
stories of scores of sightings,
stranger than reality, have emerged
from the quaint houses and gentle
fields in and around the town of
Gettysburg: Stories of sightings
of these soldiers, moving again
in battle lines, across the fields
where they once marched. . . and
died; tales of visions through a
rip in time into the horrible scene
of a Civil War hospital; whispers
of a look at men long dead held
eternally captive by duty. These
apparitions -and more- come back
to remind us, in one way or another
that they are not to be forgotten
for what they did here. . .
In 1994, Mark started the first
ghost walk in Gettysburg, The Ghosts
of Gettysburg Candlelight Walking
Tours®. Armed with tales from
his ghost books - and with a few
that aren't in the books -guides
dressed in period attire take visitors
on evening tours through sections
of town that were bloody battlefields
13 decades ago; through night-darkened
streets to houses and buildings
where it's not as quiet as it should
be; to sites on the old Pennsylvania
College campus where the slain once
lay in rows, and the wounded suffered
horribly, waiting to become corpses
themselves; to cemeteries where
the dead lie. . . sometimes not
so peacefully. Gettysburg may very
well be, acre for acre, the most
haunted place in America.
Mark Nesbitt is a
former National Park Service Ranger/Historian.
He started his own research and writing
company in 1977 and did research and
advertising copy for some of America's
best historical artists. Beginning
in 1978 he began writing books, including
If the South Won Gettysburg (1980),
35 Days to Gettysburg (1992), Rebel
Rivers (1993), Saber and Scapegoat:
J.E.B. Stuart and the Gettysburg Controversy
(1994), Through Blood and Fire (1996),
and the best selling Ghosts of Gettysburg
Series (1991- present). Many of his
stories have been seen, and/or heard,
on The History Channel, A&E, The
Travel Channel, Unsolved Mysteries,
Coast to Coast AM, and numerous other
local television programs and specials.
In July of 2004, his Ghosts of Gettysburg
Series received the National Paranormal

will get exercise, fresh air, and
have an outstanding good time with
fun for all ages. In short, Appalachian
GhostWalks is: humor and history,
emotion and education! Absolutely
entertaining, edifying and enchanting!!!
Be sure to bring
your cameras and see if you can
capture a Civil War solider, or
some other ghostly apparition from
the past. Possibly a member of the
Cherokee Nation, or a famous indvidual
will appear to you such as one of
the former Presidents Andrew Jackson,
or Andrew Johnson. If you take our
tour and get any interesting photos
of your own, we would like to analyze
them for you and provide some feedback,
so feel free to email them to us.
We very much appreciate any and
all photographic contributions...
The only limitation
on our tours is that of your own
imagination. Many have experienced
sightings of their own while walking
with us on our Cherokee Indian,
Frontier, Haunted Civil War History
Tours. Will you be among those who
have seen the ghostly form of a
visitor, dressed in attire appropriate
to their age of fashion, visiting
from another time and dimension,
and clothed, for example, in a top
hat and cape?
We currently offer
five different historic walking
tours with several currently under
development. These include Historic
