Some years ago a dear friend (let's call him DeLaney) came to see me. After some small talk he asked me if I knew a way to help one of his friends, because she had a strange problem. Well, during more than a decade of practical magick I've seen some strange things, and my friend knew that, so he talked openly about her problems without being afraid that I might ridicule him. That lady (let's call her Lucy) he told me about was visited every night in her dreams by what she described as a vampire. My curiosity was kindled, so I invited her over.

 

 

Some days later the two of them showed up, and she told me the full story. It all started with an improvised fantasy role-playing game of Lucy and another friend. They were fantasizing about luring some people into a castle to have some fun with them, so the game had a sexual note to it. The people they fantasized about were all real people, but on one occasion they made up a guy. That guy became a recurring motive, and he soon developed his own charecteristics and even a life of his own.

 

The other woman disliked him, so he stayed with Lucy. But her daydreaming about him developed a life of it's own, and he started to appear to her every night in her dreams at first, then she could feel his presence when the sun went down, and finally she felt that she started to change. She became alergic to sunlight and developed a dislike to garlic and all the other stuff that vampires dislike.

 

Up to this point you could just argue everything away using simple psychology. And being a sceptic guy I tried that. but then I was presented some kind of eviddence that is hard to ignore. DeLaney had a natural talent for spirituality and occultism that I helped him to refine, thereby he learned spirit-writing. When contacting the spiritual realm, he took two pencils, one in each hand. He wrote down his questions with his right hand, the spirit possessed his left hand and wrote the answer.

 

Some weeks before the two came to me, Lucy had enough of that vampire and it's nightly visits. Especially those dreams in wich the vampire trapped her in a burried cascet were hard to stand. For obvious reasons she didn't like the experience to be burried alife, even when it was "just" a dream. DeLaney volunteered to take that vampire upon himself, so Lucy had her normal life back - but only for a short time of two weeks. After those two weeks DeLaney had enough and bannished that creature, so it returned to Lucy. During those two weeks DeLaney and the vampire spend endless hours with spirit-wrting, and the huge stack of paper filled with two different kinds of handwriting was presented to me.

 

We agreed to perform a magickal operation, I wanted to make contact with that being, protected by a magickal circle. The operation was strange. And a little spooky. Delaney and I were sitting in the cirlce, I was armed with my dagger and wand, we had holy water and incense and I performed the lesser bannishing Ritual of the Pentagramm for protection and gave the LVX-signs to contact the spirit world. Lucy was sitting outside of the circle, not effected by the cleansing and bannishing. And soon after we started her face started to change and she spoke with a distorted voice. That vampire took her over and it answered my questions, using her body. The creature told us many different things, but still I don't believe any word of it (I'll explain why in due course). When the ritual was over and Lucy returned from her trance, she couldn't remember anything of what happened.

 

During the following two weeks Lucy lived her life without being bothered by that vampire. But then he returned, and she came back to me, asking for another ritual. I knew that a new ritual wouldn't help, that would just push more and more energy into the system, so to speak. But our common goal was to weaken the system of feeding believe and importance to that creature. So instead of arranging a new and possibly more advanced ritual, I just took a piece of paper, a pencil, a compass and a protractor and constructed a sophisticated pentagramm with different names of god in hebrew letters and other magickal symbols. Lucy was startled at how precise and fast I did that, that impression she had surely added to the effectiveness of the symbol. I then gave it to her and ordered her to place it next to her bed.

 

But something much more important (at least from my perspective) was that I encouraged her when it came to her love for mangas and comics in general. Whenever she mentioned those comics she automatically started to ridicule herself: a grown up woman reading children's comics, and so on. In the end, those comics were what helped her to get rid of that haunting creature. Lucy transformed her fascination for the dark and gloomy world of vampires into the joyful pleasure of reading comics - and so that creature that introduced itself as a vampire lost it's access to her mind and to her dreams.

 

 

As I said before, I don't believe that being to be a vampire, but it was vampiric nonetheless. There are some larvae in the astral realms that are intelligent enough to read the desires and needs of people. And they know how to use those expectations to trick us (in the same way that the people from the advertising industry do). Sometimes these creatures appear as seductive Succubi or Incubi, sometimes they have to take a different shape, whatever fits the victim (and in that regard they behave like politicians, don't they?). So Lucy and DeLaney had contact with an astral larva, a being that might one day become a real demon when it gains enough power. And it was powerful enough to change hosts, traveling along the lines of friendship. Luckily it wasn't strong enough to beat some manga heroes...
