Look up
at the moon, and here is what I try to remember
in dealing with a hunting or investigating a ghost
sighting, or strange paranormal phenomena.
Solunar influence will vary
in intensity according to the position of the
moon. The times of new moon (the dark of the
moon), and there is no moon in the sky, is the
time I believe of maximumGhost
sightings and haunted activity. Many will differ
with this and state it is when the full moon
is at it's peak. Here through my own research
are factors that I use in the study of ghost
and lunar cycles.
Brief Explanation of the Moon Phases
The phases of the moon are caused by the
relative positions of the earth, sun, and moon.
The moon goes around the earth, on average,
in 27 days 7 hours 43 minutes.The sun always
illuminates the half of the moon facing the
sun (except during lunar eclipses, when the
moon passes thru the earth's shadow). When the
sun and moon are on opposite sides of the earth,
the moon appears "full" to us, a bright,
round disk. When the moon is between the earth
and the sun, it appears dark, a "new"
moon. In between, the moon's illuminated surface
appears to grow (wax) to full, then decreases
(wanes) to the next new moon. The edge of the
shadow (the terminator) is always curved, being
an oblique view of a circle, giving the moon
its familiar crescent shape. Because the "horns"
of the moon at the ends of the crescent are
always facing away from the setting or rising
sun, they always point upward in the sky. It
is fun to watch for paintings and pictures which
show an "impossible moon" with the
horns pointed downwards.
As the new moon phase ends, the moon waxes,
or appears to grow larger, and we see more of
the moon's face. The lighted area increases
over time from right to left from our perspective
on Earth. When the sunearthmoon angle
is very small, we see only a thin bright curve,
called the waxing crescent. Over the next seven
days the angle between the sun, Earth, and the
moon grows to 90 degrees. We see the sunlight
spread to cover the right half of the moon.
This is called the first quarter. The visible
part of the moon continues to wax through the
gibbous phase over the next seven days until
we see the full moon.
As the cycle continues, we say the moon
is waning, or growing smaller. The amount of
lighted area we see decreases, and the darkened
area increases from right to left. You can tell
if the moon is waxing or waning by whether the
right side of the moon is dark or light.
Another 14 days pass as the moon moves
through the waning gibbous phase, then the third
quarter, then the waning crescent phase, and
seems to finally disappear in the new moon phase.
Now we're back to where we started about a month
ago!
Many Paranormal Investigators
argue that the full or dark of the moon have
a greater influence on a ghost habit of haunting
at a certain period of time, or activity, but,
both sides do agree that the moon itself plays
a strong role in sightings and paranormal phenomena.
But this is not the information that the novice
ghost chaser knows or realizes. Through out
the centuries, ghost filled tales and the part
that the Moon's position have always been a
main stay in horror Movies, novels and camp
fire ghost stories. the moon is time keeper.
A celestial clock that is too often ignored.
I also feel that The moon does factor into an
active, echo, and residual hauntings from my
findings. When checking my documentation I always
note what lunar cycle is active and find that
it is peak during the dark of the moon.
Telling Haunted Time in a report is important! The phase of the Moon can tell you the time
of day. For example, because a full Moon is
seen when the Moon is on the opposite side of
the Earth from the Sun, an observer on the Earth
will see the Moon rise just as the Sun sets.
The next day, the Moon will rise approximately
one hour later (because the Moon will have moved
farther along on its orbit). This means that
a waning half Moon will rise at midnight, a
new moon at dawn, etc... If someone tells me
they have seen a ghost I ask when the date.
I always check my Lewellyn lunar calendar to
see where the moon was in the sky at the time
of the haunting.*(http://www.ktca.org/newtons/15/phases.html)
Many beginner or novice
ghost hunters do not realize that documenting
the moons position and time is an important
part of a sighting and haunted investigation...
If you see a sighting or have an experience
remember the moon plays an important role in
recreating the situation to witness a sighting
once more. Many even well established investigators
disregard the actual "Moon Phase"
into their ghost haunting/paranormal Investigation,
not realizing the importance this is to your
ghost documentation.
In a report I try to include
time and the moons phase knowing full well what
effects I have documented in my haunted hunting.
I know the moon goes through astrological signs
every two days and I also not that the moon moves
1 degree every two hours. Then I just do the astrological
math and add that to my documenting. Moon tables
can be found in most astrology texts. The Moon,
in Astrology, is the ruler of Cancer. The Moon
represents our deepest personal needs, our basic
habits and reactions, and our unconscious.
The Astronomical Lilith
The Moon travels along an
elliptical path around the Earth. An ellipse has
two focal points, and the other focal point, not
occupied by the Earth has been called the Dark
Moon, the Black Moon or Lilith. This is a slightly
simplified definition, since, actually, the Moon
and the Earth both move around their common center
of gravity, and the path of the Moon is not a
neat ellipse, but a rather wobbly affair. One
must distinguish between the mean orbit of the
Moon, which is a slowly elongating ellipse, and
the actual orbit, which vaccilates around the
mean path, due to interference of various kinds.
Just as there a "mean" and a "true"
Lunar Node, so there is a "mean" and
a "true" ellipse and a "mean"
and a "true" Lilith. I write "true"
in inverted commas, because the Moon's Node is
only "true" about twice per month, when
the Moon is actually on it, for the rest of the
time, it is as "untrue" as the mean
Node. In fact, when working with a point so close
to the Earth, one should also take the great parallax
into consideration, i.e. consider, from which
point on the Earth one is actually looking at
a point in the heavens. Astrology observes the
planets geocentrically, as if from the Earth's
centre, and not topocentrically, from the actual
place of the observer. http://www.astro.com/astrology/
Wiccan and occult practices of today
including Voudon, Santeria and Voodoo rituals
all coincide with the Time and position of the
moon on it's course. Each of these has it's
name of the moon and placing in it's ritual
practice and traditions. Many mediums will not
hold Seances during a wanning moon cycle. they
feel this is a negative flow period or their
own powers are at their weakest.
One well Known medium told me that
when the moon is dark that's when the veil between
the worlds is at it's thickest.
Many psychic that I have
come to know have told me that they find they
experience the drop or diminishing of their gift
during this period. Medium and psychic alike state
firmly that eclipse and seasonal periods effect
them also, and they believe it also effects haunting's.
and Spirit energy.
The Moon has always
seemed a mysterious and powerful force to people
everywhere. She moves the tides and guides the
flow of magickal energies. Learning her ways,
we can make our own magick join with Hers...
Successful magic depends on
many factors. One of the most obvious things to
consider is the timing of your spells and rituals
with the phases of the Moon. When the Moon is
waxing, it is growing larger in the sky. This
phase lasts until the exact time of the Full Moon.
From Full Moon to New Moon, is the waning phase
where the Moon seems to disappear; until finally
it is not visible to the eye for three nights.
For this reason, this phase is sometimes called
the Dark of the Moon or the Black Moon. Then the
Moon starts once again to grow toward fullness.
The waxing Moon is the
best time to do a spell for growth, beginning
new projects, initiation and enhancement. During
the waning Moon, do spells to banish evil influences,
lessen or remove obstacles and illness, neutralize
enemies, and to remove harm. The three days
after the New Moon are the most powerful times
to work spells for growth and beginnings which
should manifest at the Full Moon. The days just
before the Full Moon are the most powerful times
for fruition and completion. The Black Moon
is the most auspicious time for banishing and
neutralizing spells. Remember that even though
the Moon looks Full Moon in the sky for two
or three nights, it is only EXACT at the time
posted on your calendar. Anything after that
time is a waning influence. Do your Full Moon
spell before the exact time listed. (The First
Quarter is the point between the New Moon and
the Full Moon. The Last Quarter is the mid-point
between the Full Moon and New Moon.)

YOUR Magic - Phases of the Moon 2004

It to must be understood
that the tides are governed by the phases and
transit of the moon. Certain haunted phenomena
occur with precise regularity during the lunar
month and solar/lunar cycle. On any calendar
month of the year.
Research has shown
that a natural day for fish and many other
animal species differ from our own. Their biological
clock
appears to coincide with lunar time, which is
the time that it
takes for the moon to reappear at a given point
during one
complete rotation of the earth (an average of
24 hours and 53
minutes. This is called a Tidal Day and explains
why the
ocean tides are about an hour later each day
- and why most
fish, fresh water species included, will feed
up to an hour later
(in relation to our solar clock) each day.
